Travel agent or no travel agent

Tiffany, on May 3, 2019 at 3:47 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 15
Did anybody use a travel agent to book your honeymoon? If so is worth it or am I better off just looking for deals and booking it on my own.

Yes, please use a travel agent for your honeymoon. Most won't cost you anything and can often be at any deals you find elsewhere, including online. They can also get you perks that you wouldn't get booking on your own.

The biggest upside to having a travel agent is that someone is there to handle anything that may go wrong. What if your flight is cancelled or your reservation is lost? You only have to make one call to your travel agent, an actual person, and he or she will handle getting it fixed. That's way better than you or your new spouse spending what could be hours on the phone, working your way through automated menus trying to get a voice on the other end to help you. That's time you could be spending having a drink or lounging on a beach or by a pool somewhere.

I’ve traveled to over 20 countries around the world & the only time we used a travel agent (because it was a business trip & client was organizing) we ended up having an issue with our itinerary. Nowadays any deals / discounts an agent can get you, are also now available online. Add to that AirBnB & websites like TripAdvisor, Expedia etc. & I don’t see a value in having one. In many hotels you can get so many little perks if you just ask them & especially if you say you are on your honeymoon, or celebrating anniversary, birthday, engagement etc. You’ll get anything from welcome drinks, room upgrade, spa voucher etc.

If your flight is cancelled, airline itself will put you on a different flight. The best & fastest way to get on another flight that works for you, is to talk to a person at that airline, ideally in person, at the airport. So much more productive to talk to them directly & answer any questions about layover, seat, meal preference, would you take money to fly the next day or no money & fly the same day etc. than having a middleman who barely knows anything about you, represent your interest. That’s just my experience from traveling all over in the last 10 years 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’d skip it. With the internet now, it’s so easy to find hotels, flights, and activities. I was able to find everything cheaper on my own than a travel agent was.

I agree with this. I have traveled extensively and have never used a travel agent. I did consider it for our honeymoon just because I was feeling so overwhelmed with wedding planning at one point that I did t think there was any way I’d be able to tackle the honeymoon too. However, I came to a wedding planning lull around the 6 month mark and had time to focus on the honeymoon.

I’ve now planned and booked our entire 17-day honeymoon to Indonesia and Vietnam. I like having complete control over things and you learn so much about your destination just by doing the trip research. I think this helps you get the most out of your trip.

That at all being said, if you aren’t comfortable with traveling abroad or just don’t want to be bothered with the planning, then get a travel agent. They can’t really hurt the situation. I just don’t see them being very valuable in today’s internet age.

We will probably be using a travel agent, simply because with the actual wedding I already have too many things going on!

We plan to go go to Europe (Austria and Italy) for ours, and it just involves a lot that I don’t have time to research. If we were just doing an all inclusive I would probably not go with an agent.

🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️ I used a travel agent. They threw in a lot of perks that I may not have necessarily gotten on my own including room upgrade, champagne bottle and chocolate covered strawberries, a free dinner for two on the beach

I don't think a travel agent is needed at all. I found so many deals for my honeymoon without the help of a travel agent. I was able to cut my costs from over $4000 to just over $1800.

You have enough to stress over. Use an agent that doesn't charge you a fee. They get paid by the hotels, airlines, etc and often get you better deals. Even if it costs the same as you would find online they can often get you freebies or upgrades thrown in

This was my first time using a travel agent, but we are SO glad we used one for the honeymoon. I actually really enjoy planning our trips, but between wedding planning, being busy at work, and a kitchen remodel, I wanted someone else to take care of it. It was so easy, we just had a quick 10 minute conversation with her to tell her what we wanted, and then she emailed itineraries and we made adjustments until it was perfect, and paid the deposit. That's it! Our hotel, 4 tours/excursions, transportation to/from airports and excursions/tours, and about half of our meals are planned and will be pre-paid (final payment due 45 days before trip). She also got us a complimentary room upgrade at the hotel and a free massage for each of us, as well as a champagne greeting upon check-in. And it didn't cost us a thing to use her. I HIGHLY recommend it.

We did and I don't regret it one bit! It was something I didn't have to worry about, and it didn't cost us any extra money! Traveling stresses me out and we were able to get direct flights to and from Cancun and our transportation to and from the airport was scheduled too! SO WORTH IT in my opinion!

Would you be willing to share who/what service you used? I was thinking of going to my local AAA since they have vacation planning but would love to use someone that has already been vetted!
