Trash the dress

Kelly, on August 31, 2019 at 7:58 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12
Is anyone doing “trash the dress” after the wedding? FH & I absolutely love our town & it really want to get some pics @ our favorite spots in our wedding garb & am truly thinking of doing it.

I’m also a bit bias on this bc I had a friend who did it years ago, & some of the best pictures where during “trash the dress”.

After that, I will probably sell the used dress & give all proceeds to the SPCA in my area - or the person purchasing the dress could donate to SPCA. Just as long as the spca gets the money.

It's unclear if you mean to "trash your dress" or just take additional photos in it. Honestly? It hurts my hearts when brides "destroy" their dresses for a photo op. If that's what you truly want, okay. But if a bride doesn't want to keep her dress, I think there are much better ways to "pass it on," like Gift a Dress | Brides Across America https://www.bridesacrossamerica.com › or 'Angel Gowns' https://www.nicuhelpinghands.org. Just a very personal opinion....

So you want to trash your dress....then sell it? I don’t think you’ll be able to make much of a donation.

I don’t want to completely trash the dress. I want to take more carefree photos @ some of our favorite spots in town. Like at our local park, some of our favorite restaurant & shops owners.

I actually make quarterly donations (sometime monthly depending on shelter needs) to SPCA & Animal Control. I paid $1k for my dress & I would only ask for like $100.
They could make the donation & email me the receipt so they could the tax deduction. It’s really just about giving them extra money.

But I don’t understand. Why would anyone want to spend $100 on a dress that you trashed...?

No one has to. I would post it. If it doesn’t sell I would donate it somewhere. If someone wanted to purchase great. If not, I’ll donate it to goodwill - they do good things within my community as well. i would just rather a donation go to SPCA or an animal related charity. However, I donate on my own to these charities, so if it doesn’t happen it’s ok - someone at goodwill might also need it,

Lol - we really love our town. We talked to a few owners of shoppes in the area & the ones that know us are all willing to open early & give us some really unique photos opportunities. Honestly whenever we go out ppl in our town recognize us - it’s a bit crazy, but also super awesome.

Yesss! I trashed my gown then set it on fire!!

My husband and his childhood friends got together at the beach to celebrate our marriages since we couldn’t get together when we got married (yay immigration laws). We all ran into the ocean and hung out in the beach in our gowns but didn’t hire anyone for pictures.

Its so so amazingly fun! I would recommend being careful how and where you go. Dresses can get very heavy when soiled or wet. Be safe!

Note: Call it what you will but I don’t think anyone doing as they please with their property is selfish. In my case my gown was torn, soiled, and covered in blood. Please be understand that not everyone wishes to sell or donate their gowns.

That sounds so much fun! I agree, when all is said & done I will pay for $1400 for my dress & alterations. It was more than I wanted to spend, but it was my money to spend. It’s my decision what happens with the dress.
