Transportation to/from event?

Caitlin, on December 7, 2022 at 3:49 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

I'm wondering what everyone thinks:

Our venue is about 25 minutes away from where the recommended hotel area is. There are some people who will be flying in from a different part of the state to attend, or driving an hour and a half to stay at the hotel. I've been looking at a shuttle just to do one trip there to the venue and one trip back to the hotel, but it's about $1500! You have to rent the shuttle for the whole time, apparently.

How necessary do you think offering rides are? Has anyone used Lyft codes to give people rides or anything? I'm wondering if that would even be cheaper when all is said and done.

As long as there is adequate parking at your venue, you don't need to provide transportation.

H & I never use shuttles to get to weddings - what if we need to leave and the shuttle isn't going yet, or just left, or whatever? So we provide our own transportation when we can.

Have you priced out how much it would be to take a Lyft during the times guests would need one and how prevalent they would be? I'd price that out and then multiply by the number of Lyfts you'd need to account for (ex. someone who's single might take their own vs a couple would probably share one together). Not sure how feasible it would be, but you could also see if you could do a shuttle one way and then use a different company the other way?

I don't think shuttling is ever really expected, it's just nice to offer. If it's not in the budget, then don't worry about it.

That's an excellent point–a shuttle does kind of trap people there, lol! There is adequate and free parking, so this makes me feel better. Thank you!

Great minds think alike—I checked on one way, but where I live has crazy hourly minimums, and it wasn't saving much money. I might do Uber, which allows you to pick a certain amount (like if I wanted to offer $10 off the ride instead of paying for the whole thing). Thanks for your input!

Unless your wedding is in the middle of nowhere, in an unsafe area, or there are no taxis available, it’s the guests’ responsibility to get to and from the wedding on their own. Don’t go into debt paying for things that guests are responsible for
