Transportation to and from hotel block

Shaylyn, on March 9, 2020 at 10:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
Hi! I’m hoping to get some opinions on whether we need to offer transportation to and from our venue from the hotel block. Our wedding is at the Curtis Arboretum in Wyncote, PA (right outside of Philadelphia) and we’ve reserved a block of rooms at a hotel 15 minutes away, which is also where the after party is taking place. Our ceremony and reception are taking place at the same venue. Do we really need to book a shuttle for our guests? We are already paying an arm and a leg for this wedding and I just don’t understand why guests can’t be responsible for getting themselves to and from the wedding responsibly.

It's a nice thing to do, but nope, you don't have to. As long as it's an area where Ubers and Lyfts are in large supply, then you can certainly get away without it. We are in a large city and we also chose not to provide transportation from the venue (ceremony and reception were at the same place) to the hotel block. Also 15 min away. Nobody seemed to mind!

Definitely not a necessity. It may be more cost effective rather than paying for Valet Service, if your venue require you to have valet. But if not, and the Hotel is only 15 mins away, your guests will be fine getting to the venue on their own.

No, you don’t have to do that. Personally, we’re planning on using Lyft Event for those that are coming from out of town and are planning to drink at the wedding. We plan on having Lyft take those guests to whatever hotel they book. Just for their safety! Don’t want them to be driving drunk.

Evasive we have an open bar we are offering Lyft event as well for hotel guests and at reception we will also offer for those who drove. You pay a set amount and what’s not used is refunded to you.

You don’t have to provide the transportation, but I’m sure it will be appreciated. Remember, they have the expense oh traveling there and hotel.

Not necessary, but nice if you can swing it.

We encouraged most people to stay in the same boutique hotel as us since we were having the after party there and we ended up booking over half the hotel’s 80 rooms. Our ceremony/reception was about 30 minutes away so we offered transportation. Nothing fancy— just school buses (we had two for 100 people staying at the hotel). Only offered one pickup from the hotel and only one pickup from the venue. It actually was nice because it guaranteed that the majority of our guests would be on time for the ceremony. 😂

We paid for guest transportation to and from our venue to our main hotel block, but it was a 30 minute drive there and 30 minutes back and we had a partying crowd. Plus the venue was in a small town so uber/lyft wasn't an option. A lot of our budget choices were geared towards guest experience more than anything. I don't think it's required though, people can easily uber 15 minutes.
