Trains -- wonderful or too much trouble?

Some people find the train as an absolutely necessary part of their dress. The train expresses the grandeur of our wonderful wedding days. Others find the train as trouble that gets in the way and may lead to the ruining of their dress or have to be collected in an undesirable bustle (that also costs extra when getting their dress altered).

But you have to admit that the trains really appear well in our wedding photos and are sort of that only chance you have to wear a gown like that. Okay. My vote for them. What is the best option for your wedding day? And a minimal train or lengthy one?

It seems since your dress flares out that the effect is like having a longer train. You made a great choice.

So much of the time, the whole appearance of the dress is what can lead to going with a longer train than planned. It all works out in the end.

I think it really depends on personal preference and the style of the wedding! Some people love the drama and elegance of a long train, it adds a real wow factor to photos. But yeah, they can be a hassle too, especially if you're worried about it getting damaged or having to deal with it all day.

I've not heard of anyone having trouble with their train yet. One bride reported her dress getting torn that did not even have a train.

If you go with the wrist loop, you don't have to hold up you train all night, just once in a while. Maybe we'll see someone post about her experience with a loop.

This is my 2nd time around. I decided upon a detachable train. After the ceremony and pictures, I can take it off and dance the morning away???

Sure. The gowns that come with a detachable train are pretty rare. Are you going with those gowns or working out another option, like Andrea's cape?

I'm working out another option. The dress for the wedding ceremony have a cathedral train attached to it.

Maybe that will solve the train-vs-no-train issue. You get best of both worlds without the bustle so many brides don't like. Glad you are solving this.

Thank you. It is true that it takes a lot of time to a pick a dress with the right train for the right look. It does out at the end

I would prefer a minimal train for one cause I'm not that tall lol and two all that picking up and it can get pretty heavy pulling it with down the isle with you.

The train should not be too heavy unless you get a dress with many layers. But probably skip the longer trains unless the dress is perfect for you despite your expectations.

I think it's a really personal decision. The choice between a train for a wedding gown is a personal decision. A longer train adds elegance and drama, creating beautiful photos, while a minimal train offers freedom of movement and practicality. The decision should align with how you envision your wedding day—whether you prefer a grand, traditional look or prioritize comfort and mobility. Ultimately, the goal is to feel beautiful and comfortable on your special day.

Sure. It is a grand event, which makes trains a normal option to consider. Has that decision arisen for you about having a train or not?

Trains -- wonderful or too much trouble? 1Trains do look nice but I absolutely hate how dresses look when they are bustled! I ended up having my train cut off while keeping the dress a bit longer in the back than in the front. It was a pain because it was definitely expensive to cut it and then bring the lace back up. They definitely should have more options!

Sure. They may say the dress is not made until you order it. If that is the case, then allow for the simple modifications to be done. Maybe the designers see this as another point where failure could happen -- like the gown with a special request turning out too short when normally they just deliver it too long and say you can have someone alter it to your desire.
