Train too long for bustle???

Lisa, on March 26, 2018 at 3:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Help! My seamstress says that the top layer of my train is too long and the only way to get it up off the floor entirely with a bustle is to shorten the train!! She showed me what a bustle would look like without cutting the train and it still drags all over the floor. Is this true? Or do I need to find a new seamstress?

I love it! I don't think it's too long for a bustle. It might be challenging with the fabric. My dress is similar and I'm not bustling. You could let it free. I've seen bustles still dragging on the floor. You could also opt for a wristlet to hold.

I would get another opinion. I would think that you shouldn't have to cut it. There are different types of bustles they can do.

My train might not be quite as long as yours, but my seamstress is doing a bustle where it will all be off the ground and not dragging like yours would be. I don't know what type of bustle it is though. It just looked good when she had it pinned Smiley laugh . I would see if you can get a different opinion.

Definitely get a few more opinions. A train can be bustled more than once to have it completely off the floor. I don't the fancy name for it, but I have seen it done in pictures.

I would get another opinion. I have seen so many dresses with much longer trains - they have to be able to bustle them some how. I think she doenst know what she is doing.

Definitely get a second opinion. I have a comparable train to yours, but different style and my tailor is able to do a bustle. The style of the bustle was dictated by the length of my train and style of my dress though. I’ve attached pictures so you can get an idea. There are so many different kinds of bustles they can do, so definitely talk to another professional.

You definitely need another seamstress if she can't handle bustling that train. My train was very similar in length and was silk chiffon so my seamstress tried a few options until we found one that I liked and worked well. It was a 12-point French bustle.

My train is longer and I’m short and it was taken completely off the ground. It can be done easily

You need to find a seamstress who is actually good at her job. There is no reason to not be able to figure out a bustle

I'd say find a different seamstress. I've seen dresses with cathedral length trains be bustled and not dragging. She doesn't sound like she really knows what she's talking about. She's not even pulling it up from the right points, and given that you have a few layers all at different lengths, it probably requires more than a 1-point bustle. Go elsewhere!

My train was about the same length as yours and I had no trouble getting a bustle. Definitely get a second opinion.

I would get another opinion. My train is much longer and my seamstress said there would be no issues with bustling.
