Traditions

JANELLE, on March 1, 2020 at 9:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
Ladies, I just decided that I might want to do the something old, new, borrowed, blue, and sixpence in your shoe. What did you do? My family doesn’t really have heirlooms and etc so I’m struggling on what to do! Ideas??

Mine are something new (basically everything: the dress, the veil, the charm bouquet on my flowers lol), something old will be the necklace my mom gave me when I turned 25 and the something blue will be the stone that my FH gave me for our second Christmas which I added to the necklace. I will probably borrow some jewelry my mom once owned or something from my MOH. Have not decided yet.

You don't have to have a family heirloom. Something old or borrowed can be from bridesmaids or friends even.

True maybe I’ll ask some people that will be there. It’s a destination wedding and I’m not doing a bridal party but I will have SILs and friends there

    New- dress
Old/borrowed- my grandmothers pearls from my mom
    Blue- my garter
You can do shoes you’ve worn before or wear your shoes to you bridal shower or bachelorette party. So they won’t be new so technically “old” ... which is what my cousin is doing ... you can go with blue nails or toes ... you can also borrow hair pins or perfume since you’ll be technically “wearing it”.

I never actually knew the six pence part so I just did the others. My garter was the something blue. I borrowed a bracelet and the new was my dress while the old was supposed to be a ring but I forgot it at home so my old was just my undies ahaha

Something blue: Ravenclaw diadem comb for hair, Ravenclaw shoes for the reception

    Did not do sixpence.

My something old is the engagement ring (it belonged to my great grandmother), something new is the dress, something borrowed is my sister’s charm from her bouquet with a photo of my late brother, and my shoes are my something blue.

Something old-- the jewelry from the 1930s that my grandma gave me before she passed, second hand shoes, gloves from the 1960s, and the vintage pattern I bought. Maybe commissioning a reproduction of the ring that belonged to my great-great grandfather (I don't think the original is for everyday wear). Also I want to use a variation on traditional Celtic vows, and the idea of using the summer solstice for a wedding goes back to ancient times.

Something new-- the fabric for the dress, new lingerie

Something borrowed-- Borrowing the fan my friend carried at the Victorian-themed ball I met her at

Something blue-- do my eyes count? LOL Just for good measure, I'm also going to include blue seam binding and a blue stabilizing waistband in the dress I'm making.
