Traditional Processional Songs?

Morgan, on October 9, 2018 at 3:25 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 18

Hi! FH and I are talking songs for our ceremony (non-church, at our venue), and we can't seem to come to an agreement on music. FH wants it to be more traditional with:

Bridal Party--"Canon in D"

Me-- "Here Comes the Bride"

Recessional--"The Wedding March"

I actually like Canon in D, but the rest seems a bit antiquated to me, and much better options if we were getting married in a Church. I'm leaning more towards instrumental/orchestra versions of "Make You Feel My Love," or A Thousand Years"--something more current yet classy.

Do you guys pick more traditional or modern for your song choices? Also, lyrics or instrumentals? Any and all ideas welcome. TIA!

We went with modern for sure. As a cellist, if I heard Canon in D one more time in my life I would have to vomit lol. I'm walking in to "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" covered by Sleeping At Last. We're walking out to "Best Day of My Life" from American Authors. The bridal party and his family will be walking in to "I Choose You" by Sara Bareilles (I can never spell her name)

Bridal party -- Christmas Canon D by the Trans Siberian Orchestra with no lyrics

Me -- Can't Help Falling In Love With You Instrumental

Recessional -- Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts.

I'm not sure if this helps or not, though

I am doing all the traditional ones you listed, but it will be on piano and I will have him play it in a softer more romantic way vs a very sharp and precise way.

I am walking down the isle to "Make You Feel My Love" and it will only be a violin playing! Recessional is "L.O.V.E" violin only too :-)

Lol I'm on board with the cellist that wants to vomit if they heard canon in D one more time, but that's me with all of the traditional stuff. We have a brass quintet performing:

Processional (family, wedding party and me): Highland Cathedral

    Recessional: Captain America March

I LOVE highland cathedral and wanted to listen to the whole thing, so I did not choose other music. There will be a pause before I come out though.

Ours was classical, but not the traditional wedding songs:

Processional: Handel, "Air," from Water Music

Bridal processional: Handel, "Music for the Royal Fireworks"

    Ketubah signing: Several Shostakovitch waltzes

Recessional: Vivaldi, "Spring," from The Four Seasons.

I just got married this weekend and I chose all instrumental covers of modern songs. My bridesmaids walked in to I Can't help falling in love with you but the Vitamin String Quartet cover. I walked in to the instrumental version of Turning Page by Sleeping at Last. Our recessional was an instrumental covers of sweet child o mine. It was incredible! I love instrumentals and newer songs. Vitamin String Quartet has a cover to like every song you could imagine and even have several wedding albums. Check them out! Good luck. 😊

We skipped traditional. For the wedding party, its "Going to the Chapel" by the Dixie Cups and my song is the jurassic park theme.

I really like the instrumental idea for a thousand years. That song is very lovely and would translate well as a processional in my opinion.

My FBIL will be playing the guitar for both the processional and recessional. I'm really liking "Your Song" by Elton John for the entrance, and still mulling over exit because I'd like it to be a little more upbeat.

For our wedding since my husband is from Trinidad we had a steel pan ( it's the national instrument from Trinidad and Tobago if I'm not mistaken) player do the preceding and I walk down to All of Me from John Legend which is one that she played with no lyrics. I say skip tradition and do something that is unique to both of you

I’m not sure what song I will have my bridal party walk down. But I want to walk down the aisle to Can you feel the love tonight or a song by Andrea Boccelli. And then from the ceremony A Thousand Years. I would Google traditional and non traditional songs! Hope this helps

They are a little out dated, but honestly the guests don’t really care what songs you use, so you should do what makes you a nd your fiancé happy. I’m using Bless the Broken Road, Make You Feel My Love, All I Ask of You, and Can’t Take My eyes Off You. My fiancé offered no help or input so I chose songs that were meaningful to me.

No backstreet boys - which we looked for. We ended up with a guitar cover of I want it that way (FH request) for our processional and did the brass band version of sexual healing for our recessional (also FH request).

I was more modern .... We walked in to "Better Place" by Rachel Platten and out to "Come to Me" by the Goo Goo Dolls. We were a bit more traditional during the ceremony and had "the Wedding Song" done. I have vocalists in my circle of friends/family so I did have the words sung. The reason I love those songs is the words so I wanted everyone to hear them.
