Tracking menu selection on tables

SoontobeMrs., on April 7, 2017 at 9:16 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

Hi All-

I'll be offering 2 menu options to my guests. The caterer suggested adding it to the RSVP card so guests can return with their selection. I'll be having a seating chart. Now what would be a good way to label/track the meal selection on the table? Should I add a small card to each table setting?

You could either do the small card, or add color-coded stickers to the back of escort/place cards.

Yeah, usually it's written on the back of the place cards.

You can add colored gems to your place cards. Yellow for chicken, blue for beef or what ever your colors are.

Are your tables pre set with place cards or will you have a table number assigned on each card that guests pick up as they walk in?

If your cards are preset and you don't need the table number listed on card, you could put a 1 or 2 for the meal choice (1-chicken, 2-fish) in the lower right corner, instead of a table number. That way the caterer could easily spot the choice, and it still looks like a typical place card.

If you are doing a seating chart, you definitely need place cards!

Most of our venues take orders at the table. People change their mind, whoever sent the rsvp back probably chose for both, people decide that their neighbor's plate looks nicer.....

If your venue won't let you do that, you'll give them a list, by table, of how many chickens and how many beefs. Many people won't take their place cards to the table, and you want to avoid another set of them,.

If your caterer doesn't need to know which seat is getting which meal, you can simply provide the numbers to the caters. Ex: Table 1 has 3 chicken meals and 5 beef; Table 2 has 4 and 4, etc. The servers will then bring out the meals and ask each guest what they ordered. (This is how it worked at our wedding, and it went off without a hitch)

If you're doing escort cards anyway, then yes, you can place a sticker or stamp or something on each one to let the servers know immediately which meal goes where.

My venue does the list that @Celia mentioned. Create a spreadsheet with everyone's names, table assignments, and meal choices.

My venue requires table tracking, so I'm looking at either labelling the table tents with little fall stickers that are color-coded to their menu choice, or having them printed with some little indicator.

The weddings I've been to have used a sticker on the back of the escort cards to mark the meal choice. For example, blue for chicken, red for beef, green for vegetarian.

You can use color coded stamps or stickers, etc. If you have your place cards printed, they can have a cute icon on them, like these:

@OHP--escort cards generally are put out on display to guide people to a selected table. Place cards are pre set at the table to denote a specific seating assignment at a table. Most do one of the other. I did escort cards that were picked up at the cocktail hour...I did a separate card for every single person, kids included but there were only 4 kids total, my 3 nieces and MOH's daughter.

We are doing assigned tables and having the menu selection marked on escort card with chicken sticker/ carrot/ cow, etc. Also giving venue a list of how many of each will be at each table just to assist servers.
