Where do you live? Cost depends a lot on where you live. Having an outdoor wedding may be more inexpensive, so that’s a good idea. Also there are plenty ways to get a wedding dress on a budget. There are always sample sales at boutiques. You’ll have to dig around. Also David’s bridal is very affordable. Also, orchids are a very expensive flower so you may have to compromise.
    Your bridesmaids could wear red!

First, I would create a tentative guest list so you have an idea of how big a venue you need. The easiest way to keep a budget down is to keep the guest list down, so keep that in mind. Then, you can use the vendor page on Wedding Wire to find venues in your area. As the PP said, cost can vary significantly depending on location. Finding a venue is the biggest thing (you don't really have a date until you have a venue). You can check out parks in your area as inexpensive and scenic venues. Getting married in the off-season or a Saturday afternoon, or any day other than a Saturday can also bring the cost down. Also, as PP poster mentioned, orchids are very expensive (like...some of the most expensive flowers. They can cost several dollars per stem). Just take it 1 step at a time! Wedding Wire and The Knot have useful checklists as well that you can use in your planning process.

The first thing that I advise you to do, that I didn't do, is talk to your SO and discuss the guest list. How big or how small that guest list will help you dictate how big the venue needs to be and how much food and alcohol you're going to need.

Once you've gotten a good handle on the amount of people you'd expect to be there then start looking at venues. Google places near you, think outside the box at community parks with pavilions, and look into open spaces that have access to bathrooms and a kitchen.

Once you find the place then you can prioritize everything else...flowers, dress, food, alcohol, entertainment...budget everything out based on what's the most important aspect to you then go from there.

Be sure you keep all quotes, receipts, and brochures in an organized folder.
