Anyone else have DRASTIC changes in the type of wedding they thought they wanted, vs what they ended up doing?

I always imagined a small, destination wedding on a beach, and I’m ending up getting married in a hotel/ballroom 15 mins from my house with 100 people.

I’m not complaining about this at all, because these changes were all based on things I wanted (too difficult to plan a wedding far away, didn’t want to have to worry about weather for an outdoor wedding, realized there were many more people I cared about being there, etc) but I still feel *weird* that I’m getting married in basically the polar opposite setting that I’ve imagined since I was a child.

I could have written the OP, lol. I feel the same exact way, although I wasn't someone who has been dreaming about my wedding for my entire life. But, when FH and I first decided that we were going to get married, a small beach wedding is exactly what we started planning. I also would have been happy with getting married with just us in Vegas, but my parents would have never forgiven me.

Once we faced reality, we chose to have a wedding closer to home, especially because of some older people in our families who are very important to us and who would have trouble walking on the sand. We're still getting married by the water, which we're both happy about, and it's very convenient for our families.

Looking back, I kind of wish we stuck with the original plan and had something small, but I'm still very happy and excited about the wedding that we will be having.

I wanted a farm wedding just because I thought it would be neat and I'm getting married in a hotel/room not even a ballroom because we dont have the maximum amount of people needed for the ballroom so it's everything that my FH wants but not me.BUT I will be surrounded by the people that I want so none of that matters to me-I guess, Smiley winking

I love these stories! My second wedding was more the wedding I had the first time: less than 50 people, no dance, just a mellow time. One thing I let go of the second time, lol: a red bouquet. I was HUNG UP on that darn thing....hubby insisted on a white boot so went for an all white bouquet...and i loved it!!!

I started wanting a Disney wedding of 18 people, and now have a science center wedding of 100

Yes! I wanted a courthouse wedding and private dining at a favorite restaurant with immediate family. We are having an outdoor garden ceremony and indoor reception for 110 people.

It's not what I pictured, but I think having our families there will be lovely.

Mine was opposite! In my 20's, I imagined a BIG wedding, fancy ballroom, 100+ guests.

In my 40's, I met my dream man. We had a SMALL wedding/reception but here's why it rocked. Never did I imagine themed events: Pirates of Caribbean wedding in a wine cave and swanky 60's local reception at a winery. AMAZING. And more fun, more me, definitely "us." Plus, we had TWO separate events. Happy, happy, happy. Still glowy a year later.

This was me. I always wanted a super small wedding, but when I started planning I ended up with a guest list of 100+, a ballroom venue, and a catered tea party/brunch. Fast forward a year to now, the wedding is in a little over 3 months, and FH tells me he hates everything about our wedding plans and wants to reimagine the whole thing and go back to the super small, casual idea. So it’s back to the drawing board. Thank god invitations haven’t gone out yet.
