Total time getting ready?

Sarah, on August 2, 2020 at 1:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

This is kind of a dumb question, but how much prep time can you anticipate to take the day of in terms of makeup, hair (just style...not cut, no color), and getting your dress on? Assume you aren't doing all the usual photos and are getting everything done at the actual ceremony site.

2 hours?

    It took an hour and a half for my makeup, an hour for my hair, and maybe 20 minute to get my shapewear, dress, shoes, and accessories on. So a total of almost 3 hours.

    That's not a dumb question. I would definitely say you should plan on this taking more than two hours. Are you having your hair and makeup done professionally? And will it just be you getting ready or will you have bridesmaids/family members getting ready with you? If you're having someone else do your hair and makeup, ask that person how much time you need and add about 30 minutes to give you a buffer. If you're doing it yourself, practice, time it, and add a little bit more time because it'll probably take longer that day when you're nervous and people are interrupting you. My dress doesn't take any longer to put on than regular clothes, but if yours is very tight or has a lot of buttons or something, you may need to add extra time for that.

    Okay, I'll anticipate 3 hours. Not having bridesmaids. It will just be my mom and I getting our hair and makeup done lol.

    Needed to know since one of the venues we are looking at is a 1h30 minute drive from a hotel we might be staying at.

    Thanks =)

    Thanks. No bridesmaids. Just me and mom. Yeah would be hiring someone for hair and makeup. I am not good at styling hair, and while I think I'm good at makeup, I definitely want a professional to do it since they know what would look flattering in photos.

    I’m planning to give myself about three hours to get ready, but I’m also doing my own hair and make up and practiced timing myself you. If you’re hiring a HMUA would ask them how long they will need. It’s going to depend on what style you want too.

    I would ask your hair and makeup artist, because each person usually takes a different amount of time

    Ask your hair and make up artist! Then when you do your trial you can get a rough estimate!

    I’ve budgeted myself about 2.5 hours. I’ll be doing my own HMU

    I was pretty chill about prep time... I think my hair and make up took around 2 hours? Ish?

    We also had time for a pizza party before my lipstick went on, and then my dress and veil.

    Got to the venue at 2 to get ready, ceremony was at 5.. and we started mostly on time.
