Torn between diamond vs diamond and sapphire wedding band

Conny, on May 24, 2021 at 5:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
I’m excited to pick out my wedding band. I looked at a sapphire and diamond band which I loved. However, I’m starting to second guess myself and consider a diamond band then maybe down the road (an anniversary or other life event) hey a sapphire and diamond band. Anyone have experience with going an almost ‘non traditional’ route with rings then regretting it? These are just pictures to give a visual . My ring is smaller and a radiant cut solitaire.

It's really just personal preference. I initially wanted a sapphire and diamond band, but that didn't go with my engagement ring, so I just went with a pave diamond band that matched with my engagement ring better.

If you plan on always wearing it, go with all diamonds. Sapphires are the strongest of all gemstones but still softer than diamonds. They can scratch or get damaged more easily with daily wear.

I told my FH i did not want a diamond engagement ring and he got me a sapphire! I love it and never take it off and get compliments everywhere I go. I plan on pairing it with diamond-only bands (has not been purchased yet). If you're liking the color i say go for it!

I prefer clear stones because they match with everything. That being said, I have ruby peekaboos on my e ring and pale blue sapphires on my band.

Sapphire is actually not a non-traditional wedding stone! Look up the history of it, it used to be seen as good luck or something. I say if you like it, go for it! All diamond bands will always be around if you change your mind in the future.

I agree that it's very much personal preference. I have a peach sapphire engagement ring and my wedding ring also has peach sapphires in it so I did have to consider if I would regret a coloured ring. Ultimately, I decided it was a safe choice, as pink has been my favourite colour since I was four or five, and the shade of peach I chose is quite neutral and goes with most things. I did look at Montana sapphires, for example, but decided in the end that they would be harder to tone in with outfits.

That said, look at Kate Middleton - she doesn't even try to tone in her engagement ring, so it's hardly a requirement.

I say, consider your own personality and what matters to you, and don't worry about what other people think. If you, yourself are in love with it, that's all that truly matters.

edited to add, here is my 'non traditional' engagement ring:

I also considered a diamond and sapphire wedding band. My best advice is to try both on with your engagement ring and see what looks the best. I ended up going with an all diamond band and decided I could add another band with sapphires or ruby's later on.

Sapphires come in different colors (including white/clear), so if you like the sapphire/diamond look but are worried that it will be "too bright blue" you might be able to custom order a band with alternating diamonds and sapphires that uses a paler blue (or other color) sapphire stones.

My engagement ring is a misty gray diamond flanked by white sapphires. I'm pretty sure if I paired it with a regular clear diamond band it would make my e-ring look a bit dull by comparison, just due to the different qualities in the stones.

I also think rings look best when they are in proportion to one another. If you have a smaller solitaire ring, putting a think pave/eternity band next to it will make the center stone of your e-ring look even smaller by comparison. My ring is pretty dainty, and I feel like it looks best when paired with a simple or very slim band; anything too thick overshadows it and doesn't feel balanced.

Thank you! Yours sounds gorgeous - coloured stones are just fun, and reveal so much about the personality of the wearer!

Thank you everyone! Ultimately, I decided on an all diamond band . I still want a sapphire band to mark an event or just to have one for myself . I wasn’t 100% in love with the look of the e ring against the sapphire band but felt more confident to have it perhaps as a third / additional ring down the road. I think I’ll absolutely love to stack or alternate depending on preference. I still love the idea of sapphires and colored stones !!! Thanks again for your input helped me make an informed decision!

Aww, thank you! My fiance picked the stone out himself and did such a great job with the colour - I'd previously told him the type of pink I wanted and went into quite a bit of detail about how I wanted something peachy and neutral that was neither too orange nor too pink. The poor guy was faced with a bunch of stones that looked almost identical to him, and he wasn't worried I'd say no, he was worried that he wouldn't have picked the right shade! Bless him, he did Smiley smile
