Hey Heather, welcome to WeddingWire! Congratulations on your engagement, that sounds like such a sweet and memorable proposal Smiley heart

You're definitely not crazy for planning already, especially if you want to have your wedding next year because things can book up pretty fast! We didn't have an engagement party, but I assume it's similar to any other party really. Food, drinks, mingling, etc. Smiley smile

Typically someone offers to throw the couple an engagement party, they don't host it themselves. It typically happens within a month or so of getting engaged. We had a 19 month long engagement and started planning 18 months out. It was enough time and we weren't stressed at all.

I don't think that's too early to plan. Time flies by extra fast when you're engaged.

Nope! I got engaged in September 2019. My wedding is September 2021 and i already have my venue (with catering and bar), photographer, dress and dj! Where i live things book very fast, many venues/photographers and djs are already booked for our date.

In my mind, it's never too early! I got engaged Feb 2019, planned for wedding Aug 2020 and I had almost everything already planned by April 2019. It let me really enjoy my engagement. Now that it's 2020 I really don't have as much to worry about. I would highly suggest to whomever to schedule as early as they are able. In regards to the engagement party, we personally didn't have one but it's up to you! I didn't think it was necessary. I felt the congrats we received and our future wedding were enough.

It's definitely not too early considering the fall is a really popular time to get married! I would start decided on your budget, estimated number of guests, and research venues! Venues for fall weddings regularly get taken up to 2 years out!

Never too early!! We got engaged May 2019, will be getting married April of 2021 and we booked most of our venues around September 2019! We are having our wedding in a very popular destination at a popular venue so they usually book out 1.5 years at least
