Too soon for flowers?

FutureMrsKC, on November 16, 2017 at 3:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

My friend is getting married in June 2018, she has talked to 3 florists for quotes. One florist in particular told her that she is planning too early and should contact back in January for prices as the prices of flowers change and she can't give her an accurate quote right now. The other 2 florists gave her straight up quotes. My wedding isn't until Jan 2019, but I've been looking into different floral arrangements I like on Pinterest and getting ideas. When is too soon to ask for a quote? I didn't think my friend was early on her floral planning, but that florist thought STRONGLY otherwise.

ETA: I don't think my friend was planning on booking a florist this early, I'm not 100% sure, but I know she wanted prices for budgeting and options.

When we booked our venue (about a year in advance, I believe), their vendors they work with began contacting us within a couple weeks. That included the bartender company and their preferred floral/decor vendor. Flowers can eat up a huge amount of the budget, and I do not feel that seven months out is "too early" at all. I was shocked by how much my "vision" would actually cost, so I am glad we were in contact with our florist as early as we were - it gave me time to look at alternatives and figure out what was realistic with our budget.

I didn't think it was too early either, and flowers are definitely expensive! I doubt she'll be contacting that florist back, just didn't know if others felt that was too soon.

My wedding isn't until November 2018; but I knew there was a particular florist I wanted who books super quick - so I reached out to her in March 2017 for a quote and ended up booking her pretty shortly after. I thought it was WAY too soon; but she insisted that it wasn't - as long as I was sure of what I wanted. I will go back to her a few months before and make some small changes but nothing major.

I dont think a year is too early...I am booking mines 7 months out.

I thought florist usually know which flowers cost what during each season.

Wierd. She lost out on a client bc they were too early. While her competitors are providing quotes.

I thought I was extra early (my wedding is 10 months away - Sept 2018) and my first choice for florist replied that she is already booked for my date Smiley sad

It's definitely not too early...I have clients booked well into the end of 2018. My June 2018 clients were booked 6 months ago. This may have been that florist's "polite" way of saying they didn't think that client would be a good fit for them...I would just move on.

I've had a contract with my florist for two months now. I would say 8-10 months out is a good time to get your florist booked.

Definitely not too early for her to be looking at booking a florist. I booked my florist in August, and my wedding is the month before hers. I wouldn't go back to that florist either if there are other florists willing to talk to her now.

I was getting quotes 11-12 months in advance from florists. Nobody had any trouble getting me pricing info, and nobody told me I was too early. I didn't have any specific flower requests though - maybe your friend wanted something very specific and they weren't sure if they could get it yet?

We just booked our florist this past saturday for our September 2018 wedding and the florist said it was good we got in when we did as she is already almost booked for september of nextyear,

If your friend is looking to be married in the most popular month of prime wedding season I would maybe try to book a florist ASAP

Same, I will be getting married next Dec so I wanna get an idea of prices before I purchase. I feel like months before the wedding is too rushed. Maybe get quotes as of now for January of next year? Prices won't vary that much from a year, can it?
