Too much cleavage

Laura, on March 13, 2017 at 2:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

So I found a dress in December and fell in love with it! The size I tried on was an 18 and too big, so the lady at Davids Bridal (don't even get me started with the mess ups they have caused) said I should order a 16. I should have requested real measurements I know, but I was so wrapped up in my dress moment and I've never done this before so I just didn't think to ask her... so I got my dress Sunday and there is WAY too much boob for me, I'm devastated that instead of feeling beautiful I just feel uncomfortable and exposed...The 18 had cleavage, but did not show this much....I can't afford another dress, so I'm looking for advice on how to minimize cleavage. I'm going to get it altered and hopefully the woman can add some straps, but I really want major shrinkage in the cleavage. Any advice please help!

Davids will exchange sizes. Just ask to up it one size and then get it altered around the waist

What about getting a lace top added to it? Instead of just adding straps alone you could have them add a top to it in a nice lace so it makes you feel more covered? That's what I had planned on doing if I got a dress in a similar style to yours. Ended up going with a dress that covers more, but I think yours could be really pretty if you have them add on lace! It might be a bit pricey though. Otherwise maybe look into a light shrug you could wear over it in lace or another somewhat sheer fabric, so you won't over heat but you'll feel covered up?

The dress looks great! If you feel uncomfortable about the dress, see if they can add a sheer lace top.

I think you look great too, however you have to feel great! Try using a bra that doesn't push your boobs up so much. Also, instead of lace, try using tulle instead. Sometimes the can simply add a tulle lining to match the sweetheart shape and that extra inch does plenty! I suggest tulle, because your dress looks like it has a tulle skirt and I think it will match better than lace. However, if your dress does have lace then go with that. This picture is another idea at least for the ceremony.

This is the best example of lining the sweetheart I could find... Imagine replacing that lace with about a half inch or inch of tulle. It looks like a fancy accent, but it should fix your "too much cleavage" issue without completely changing the look of your dress. I have done this before, so I know it works! You got this!!!!

Yea my skirt is tulle and will need some length taken off so the extra material could be used as a liner! At least there's an option

Is the dress a corset back, zip up? I went for my first fitting with a great bra and when they put the dress on and laced it up it was way too much clevage for me. I took the bra off, which I didn't need and it made a world of difference. You may not need a bra (from the photo it looks like you have one on) so I would try that when you go for your alterations appointment.

I would imagine they can do some alternation. Straps is a good idea too. It doesn't look TOO much though as is I don't think!

Beautiful dress! Do you have a bra on in that photo? Could you go without? I always look way smaller and have less cleav without a bra. I like the idea of the lace coming up over the dress too!

I have the same issue with my dress & just plan on asking my seamstress to add a little lace to go across the top. I have a strapless dress & not sure I want to do an actual topper to take away from that.

It's a pretty dress! Don't fret. Stick with it and work with your seamstress to find a solution. You look beautiful though! (:

You could always size up with DB and then get it taken in where you need it to. There are also illusion tops and whatnot if you're willing to go not strapless. Your seamstress could also add sleeves. But I think the dress looks gorgeous but of course if you're not comfortable then it needs to be fixed! Good luck

You look beautiful! I ordered a dress that shows way too much cleavage but the seamstress actually showed me how they can make it more modest. I ordered extra lace fabric from the designer so she can raise the sweetheart neckline. Don't worry!! An accomplished seamstress can definetly make sure you can achieve the look you want. I'd ask about them using the material they hem to raise the neckline.
