Too many speeches...

Maggie, on July 21, 2018 at 8:55 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10
So I’m thinking ahead here but, my very best friend is going to officiate my wedding. I have two MOH’s , my sister and my best girlfriend. Then we have my dad, and the best man who all are expecting to give a speech I think? Who doesn’t get to? Lol honestly I’d love everyone to. I think they would all be perfect but I don’t want all of our guests to be super annoyed because of the endless speeches.

Having too many speeches isn’t ideal, as you already know. If they all want to, maybe stress to them to keep it short?

First, make sure that they all do want to give a speech. Your post doesn't seem to be positive that they are wanting to. Second, set a time limit for the speeches, in a nice way of course. "It's great you want to give a speech! Can you please keep it to under two minutes because we have several speeches?"

Usually it’s MOH, BM and wedding host (if not you and FS). Since you have 2 MOHs,I guess they would both speak. I’d tell them to keep speeches to no more than 90 seconds. Speeches, unless someone is very gifted at writing and delivering them, can get very tedious for guests.

Just so you know, 5 minutes is actually very long for a toast. 90 seconds - 2 minutes each is more than enough.

I think this is my best bet. Spreading them out so it’s not 20 min straight of speeches lol

I would’t spread them out too much, youll be interrupting the flow of the wedding & that time would be entirely too long for speeches. I’m guessing you were joking abt 20min worth anyway lol or hoping at least

Lol yeah total exaggeration. Maybe 2 min each . And my officiant can say everything during the ceremony. If he wasn’t officiating he was going to be my man of honor. He is my closest friend and has mentioned giving a speech still...

Your officiant doesn't need to speak at the reception - he can say whatever it is during the ceremony if it's really necessary.

Your dad could maybe give a "welcome" speech toward the beginning (like just after dinner or whatever food you're having begins), and then the two MOH's and best man could do short toasts later in the reception. This would shorten the "oh god, it's speech time...how long is this going to take??" for your other guests.
