Too many drink options for reception?

Richaelyn, on June 27, 2021 at 11:58 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16

I think we may have too many drink options for our wedding reception.

We're having:

- Non alcoholic drinks (comes with catering) - Lemonade, Tea, Water and Coffee

- Alcoholic drinks - Bottled Beer, Sparkling Raspberry Moscato Wine and a Regular wine

- 2 Signature Cocktails

- A Two Sided Frozen margarita machine (1 side - Alcoholic Blue Hawaiian, 1 side Non-alcoholic Strawberry)

Is this too many? I'm thinking about maybe only having one signature cocktail but, I like the idea of having a bride & a groom drink. Should we also have a Champagne?

I don’t think there’s any such thing as too many cocktail options

We basically had everything yuu are offering except the frozen drinks, but we had sodas. We were left with basically all the beer and wine. Our 2 signature drinks were done by 9pm lol. But you know your crowd better than us. We had 120 people.

I didn’t think about adding in Soda. Did you have cans of soda or did your bartender like pour it into cups?

Sounds good to me. You'll have something for everyone. We're having a similar amount, but no signature cocktail:

I don't think you need champagne especially because you already have a sparkling Moscato. What alcohols are you using for signature drinks? Also, sparkling flavored water seems to be very popular these days...

Both the signature drinks we’re gonna have vodka/rum in them but I’m thinking about doing one clear liquor drink and one dark liquor drink.

This isn’t too many at all. Depending on what your beer and wine options are, it’s a moderately limited selection.

Definitely not too many drinks and I would add the champagne.

I don't think its too many, because you only have a few options in each category. I think your non-alcoholic options are perfect. I would recommend a couple different beer options at minimum, and to have a white and red wine option in addition to a sparkling option (you don't need champagne if you are using the sparkling strawberry moscato in place of that). I would personally ditch the margarita machine (frozen slushy machines just don't scream "upscale event" to me, but if they go with your theme you can totally keep them).

Of course this all depends a bit on your guests. Are you having a 50 person wedding or a 200 person wedding? Are there a lot of children or non-drinkers in your group? Are your friends super into craft beers, are they wine snobs, do they just drink anything that is handed to them? We had a 50 person event with three beer options, three wine options (white, red, sparkling), and two signature cocktails.

It's only too much if you can't afford all of it. Your guests will appreciate having lots of options to choose from.

What are your signature drinks? Hard liquor options or something else?

What you have sounds great. Not everyone likes beer/wine so the Blue Hawaiian is a good option for those who would otherwise be drinking the non alcoholic options. You don’t need to add champagne because many people don’t drink it and prefer alternatives instead.

The signature drinks will both be made with vodka.
One will be a watermelon flavor and the other will be a pineapple flavor. I’m thinking now about making one with brown liquor (like cognac or brandy) and one with clear liquor (vodka or rum).

What do your guests drink? Ask your family/friends who will be attending what they prefer so you don’t waste money on something no one drinks. Some groups prefer whiskey/bourbon and rum, others prefer tequila and vodka.

We came with our own. We got the mini 7.5oz cans. We had a bunch of those left over as well lol. But your bartender may have the option. I would ask.

I think what you are having sounds perfect! There will be something for everyone. Your venue should offer a champagne toast with your meal. If not, try to cut costs by buying your own and just do the toast with the BM and MOH. You don't need to let champagnet flow all night, you have enough of everything else.
