Too long to be engaged?

Lindsay, on December 26, 2019 at 9:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
We just got engaged November 9, 2019. We started looking at venues almost immediately. We absolutely fell in love with one and couldn’t see ourselves getting married anywhere else, but recently found out they are almost completely booked through 2021. We want a fall wedding so we would be looking at Fall 2022 most likely.. Is 3 years too long to be engaged and plan a wedding?

It's really a matter of preference. Some couples choose a long engagement to ensure they can afford their dream weddings, whether it's 3 years or 10!

The date is really what matters to you and your fiance! you can have an extended engagement or have one as short as you wish there is really no right or wrong! I have been engaged since 2016 and we set a date for 2020 Smiley smile

Depends how you feel. Honestly I would never have been able to wait that long... we were engaged for 18 months (but I didn’t do any planning for the first 6 months) and even THAT felt like too long to me.

The length of your engagement is up to you and your FH

For fun, FH and I wanted 10/10/20. So that meant a 22 month engagement (quiet long actually). Now we’re down to about 9 months and basically everything is booked and done. So it’s just a waiting game now.

We went to the courthouse a 11 months after we got engaged ( engaged Feb 2017, legally married Jan 2018) (but we didn't count it) because that wasn't our celebration. Fortunately, we are financially stable and planning our wedding in June 2020 and couldn't be more than happy. Everyone is different though. I think it just depends how soon you want to have your wedding and how badly you want to have it at that venue. Hope that helps !

It just depends on how long you and your FH want to wait. Ours will be just about 2 years by the time of the wedding and it seems like a lifetime 😭 But we wanted a long engagement because I’m just about to graduate and we want to be stable and save money

I have a friend who got engaged about 8 months before me and her wedding is a year after mine. She’s really regretting seeing other people get engaged after her and married before her cause they have an almost 3 year engagement.

My FH's cousin and his new fiance are doing the same thing! If that is what you and FH want, it is never too long!

I don't think 3 years is too long at all! That gives you plenty of time for wedding planning, pre-marital counseling, and simply getting to know each other better. It gives you great opportunity for both of you to grow as a couple. Congratulations on your engagement!

By the time I get married (May 2, 2020) FH and I will have been engaged for 3 years and 4 months. If you are set on getting married at this venue, then I would say it's definitely worth the wait.
