Too Early to Tour?

Erin, on July 24, 2019 at 2:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 19
I found a venue that looks amazing on paper and I want to go look at it before i get my heart set on it only to be disappointed down the road when I tour if it’s not what I expected. I won’t have the money for a down payment likely until February, so I don’t know if it’s too early to tour and if I should wait till I’m closer to having the money I’ll need for a down payment if i really do love it. Plus, the wedding isn’t until April 2021 xD

I would wait, only because you could fall in love with it and it could very well be booked before you’re able to make a deposit in 7 months.

Go. Because getting your heart set on it and dreaming and making a vision to only have it shattered later will stink.
Plus, if you do love it, the venue might work with you.

I'd vote to wait until you can afford to put down the deposit. I'm with the first commenter - I'd rather never see it and never get to because it's booked or see it later an hate it than see it and love it, and have it already booked on your date. If you're flexible on dates, however, going ahead with a tour seems much more reasonable.

Did you know what the down payment is? Would they work with you on a payment plan?

Do you have a specific date? If so, definitely wait. Venues book up fast. If you are flexible on dates, I'd go now to check it out.

If you haven't seen it yet how do you know what the down payment is?
My venue was booking into 2021 when I went for my late 2020 date in March 2019. 😬
So if you know for a fact you can't afford the payments on it don't go or you'll be really sad. But if you think you could pull it off then go ahead.

My date is extremely flexible, I’d just prefer a Sunday in April because it’s less expensive cause it’s in the off season but still nice out in Colorado.

The down payment will will be between $1,500 and $2,100 depending on which package we decide to go with.

They list their prices on their website and the down payment is 1/4 the total price of the package.

My wedding isn’t until 4/2021 too and I’ve already toured and decided on a venue lol I don’t think it’s to early. I think it’s important to tour before you decide to put a down payment anywhere. When you tour you get to have more information and I think it helps make a decision. I had a venue I lived in paper but when I went there it wasn’t what I wanted at all and so I had to keep touring and finding places.

Also once you’ve toured the space and have found a couple you like you can ask for an estimated cost list and they will usually give you one after you tour so you have a really good idea of how much each space actually is. My numbers were pretty off when I just went off of the websites of places.

Go! At least you’ll know. While you’re there mention that you’re on a budget (we all are) and ask if there’s anything they can do about the price and that you really love the venue. The worst they can do is say no. Our venue took off 10% and threw in chiavari chairs and cocktail hour tables for free!

I would go! We toured our venue over 2 years in advance and loved it! We told her our date and were planning on putting down the deposit. She wrote us in for our date and a few months later we paid the deposit. I think you should go when it gets closer to the time you will have the money for the deposit, so maybe wait a few months. Your 2021 so I think you will be ok. Most people aren't even booking that year yet, just from my experience,

Have you spoken to the venue about booking for 2021? I know a lot of venues in my town will only book 1 year out.

IT'S NEVER to early to look at venues.. My wedding is October 2021 & i start & booked my venue already, besides you always want to look & compare different venues to see what fits your budget. you don't have to put any money down until you are ready to lock in your date.

I just went thru this and our wedding date May of 2021. It was our 2nd place and we absolutely loved it. Nothing else that we saw compared to it and they were willing to work with us on the deposit as well as payment schedule. I feel its worth a shot to see if you really do love it in person and if the venue will work with you. Maybe they can do a pencil hold until you have the down payment for a certain amount of time and inform you when another couple inquires about the date you're requesting. But definitely go...it might look good on paper but in person it could look and feel completely different.

It never hurts to tour, because there's no obligation to book at the time of seeing the venue and they'll give you an idea of the deposit required when you go if you ask for an estimate.

One of the first things me and my FH did was look for Venues. Our date isn't until Oct 2020 and sadly some of the places we looked at they were already booked for our date! and of course some places would like to know if your date is flexible (we couldn't change it to the weekend before due to his father going to a convention that's already been planned for two years in the making) Looking at venues on the website or paper is nice, but actually going to them and maybe taking a tour for yourself, get a feel for the people that are working there (professional or not) and see if they can work with you. One of the venues we looked at looked amazing on paper/website, but going there in person was a HUGE letdown. So either plan a tour with someone there or just take one yourself and go from there. Its how we found our place!
