Too Early To Send Invites?

Melissa, on May 28, 2019 at 12:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
Our wedding is September 20. Is the middle to end of June too early to send them out? Our hotel block rate expires the month before our date so I am concerned about people not booking in time.

Etiquette says 6-8 weeks but we all have different circumstances. Mine will go out about 3 months in advance because all our guests are out of town and people need to book flights/hotels. We did save the dates but people are really turned off by making their plans on that alone- they are waiting for the invites.

I think 8-12 weeks, if you have a situation like hotels and flights, makes perfect sense. Personally, I try to book flights 6-8 weeks in advance.

We are getting married in June 2020. Sending out save the dates in August (10 months before wedding) and invitations in February (4 months before wedding). I'm not following the 6-8 week rule.

I sent our save the dates out 10 months in advance & our invites out a little less than 3 months!

I would send yours at the end of June! We had the same situation (hotel block closed a month before our date) and we sent our invitations out 11 weeks in advance. Everyone who needed a hotel room got one!

We plan on sending our save the dates out 10 months in advance and the invites 3 months in advance because most of our guests are from out of town and out of state.
Everyones situation is different. I would definitely send your invites out asap if you have a room block that ends

Thanks for all the reassurance! We do have a good number that would need flights and hotels so I’m glad that’s good time. Now if only the invites would get here so we can stuff them all lol

That doesn't seem too early to me. I will say though that we also have a room block that expires one month before our wedding date, and even after invites went out that hasn't seemed to encourage people to book a room. We've even been telling friends and family to book a room for the last 6 months, and they all say "oh yeah we need to do that soon," but they haven't. So hopefully your guests book a little quicker once they receive their invites.

I sent room block info with our save the dates. Our block is nearly full for our September wedding.

I don't see any problem sending your invites a little early.

Ours expires one month before too and I think waiting to send invites until 8-12 weeks is perfectly fine! That’s about 2-3 months before the wedding and I think most people know by over a month before the wedding if they’re going or not.

We sent out invites out 12 weeks in advance because our hotel block ends 2 months before our wedding (expires on June 16th, wedding on August 16th), so I wanted to make sure people have their invites a few weeks before that date to allow for booking hotels.
