Too Early to Order Dress?!?

Davon Marie, on May 9, 2019 at 9:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20
Today I went looking for a dress alone to get an idea of styles I liked. Ended up falling in love with one that actually brought me to tears.

It was very different than what I thought I wanted. But my wedding is pretty far away (08/21/21). So do I order my dress now (I'm scared it won't be available closer to the time) or wait?

Are you the type of person that changes your mind a lot? For me, if I bought a dress no matter how far in advance that’s what I would wear, I would never spend money on a second dress or even look at them. But if you think you’ll buy it and keep looking at dresses and think you might find something better then wait. You can talk to the consultant at the store and see when that dress will no longer be sold, I’m sure you have at least a few months or more before you won’t be able to find it in a regular store

Eek. That’s over 2 years away. So much can happen in that time. Unless it’s on sale or something that is time sensitive I would wait.

I think it’d be best to wait just because you never know what can happen in two years. My FSIL bought her dress almost a year in advance then found out she was pregnant. They pushed the wedding back a year and she got pregnant again and now can’t fit into her dress.
if you wait, you can be positive you’ll fit into it, and you can possibly find it on sale later

I’d wait until 8 months before the wedding. In my case I tried 3 or 4 dresses before I found the one just 2 months before the wedding.

I would definitely wait. You might be in a completely different place by the time your wedding gets here.

That dress is stunning on you! Ask the shop when it arrived and look on the designer’s website for the collection year. I think a shop typically carries a dress for 1-2 years before it’s discontinued. It would be better to order a year before your wedding in case you change your mind. But you don’t want to lose that dress either!

I purchased my dress in April 2017, we weren't even officially engaged yet and we're getting married in October 2020. I knew what I wanted and it's been in my closet ever since. It was no longer in production and I had to get it then. I haven't regretted my decision and can't wait to wear it down the aisle.

Beautiful dress! I would ask the store what would be your best options since your wedding is a couple years away. Good luck!

I wouldn’t get it.. your wedding is so far out, you might change your mind later. I see a lot of posts about dress regret in here... I haven’t gotten mine or even started looking yet and my wedding is 08/08/20... I’ll start looking 8 months out, I’m not planning on paying more than $300 so itll definitely be a simple dress plus it’ll be red lol... I am also working on toning my body and I do change my mind often...

Your tastes can definitely change from now until then and so can your vision!

What I would do is find a few places where it is sold and keep an eye on it. Every now and then, call a place and ask for the details of the dress (price, etc.). Do not say your name or anything - maybe even have others call too. This way you can tell if it is being discontinued and such. So then if you find out it is and you still love it, you can buy it then and it will hopefully be closer to the day.

I had found my dress nine months before my wedding, but did not purchase it right away. I had emailed them randomly in January and they told me that it was being discontinued so I bought it right away. I could have waited until the price dropped for a serious savings (like a month later too), but then I changed it not being in my size.

Hi Davon Marie! What did you decide to do? Did you order the dress? Or were you able to find the collection year on the designer's website?
