Too early to order bridesmaid dresses?

DanieGee, on January 7, 2014 at 1:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

I already have the style and color of bridesmaid dresses picked out, but when should I let my girls know about ordering? Is letting them know about it now too early?

My MOH is pregnant right now and due in March and I don't expect her to order yet for obvious sizing reasons, one of my other girls is pregnant and due a month before the wedding, and I also learned one of my other girls is currently trying for a baby. I'm trying to allow time for them to plan around their schedules and give everyone enough time to order.

I was going to give them a deadline of ordering by April-ish. Do I just email them now and let them figure out when is best to order?

Thanks for the advice!

Ask the salon when they need to place the order by so there will be plenty of time for alterations and no rush fees, and then give yourself a few weeks before that for the girl's deadline. That way no stress and less possibility of huge alterations.

Every dress designer has a different waiting time, so that's why you need to specifically ask the salon. My dress was 3-6 months. My girls dresses 2-3 months.

I have TWO pregnant bridesmaids that will have had their babies by May. The salon told them to order two sizes larger than their pre-pregnancy size.

i ordered our dresses in December for a May wedding, and they will not be in until late April! so I'd plan 6 months out to be safe Smiley winking.

When I went and picked out the dresses, they suggested February/March.

I don't know if they anticipated a longer arrival time though, but between that and alterations, thats what I told my girls.

I also dont expect everyone to order in February. This way though in case any of them have issues, they can be dealt with without causing any stress.

Hey Date twin! We picked ours out on Halloween, and our dress shop said to order them by the middle of march. Maybe wait a month? Unless they're being discontinued.

@SupermanBride, I was actually told they were being discontinued at the end of the year, then I got their spring catalogue and the dresses were a featured dress!

Everywhere I went suggested 4months. Mine is in July, but I told them to order by the endo of January so that when they come in (May) we'll have plenty of time to alter if need be.

@Truffle - I was told I should order mine now since the dress I'd like the girls to wear is a special occasion dress at DB and may not be available in Feb/Mar. We are getting together on the 18th to purchase them. What color are you choosing date twin?

I am wearing ivory and my girls are wearing plum. I love fall colors so purple and peach/pale orange and yellow are my colors....

It all depends. DB has dresses back within 4 weeks whereas the salon I chose takes 4-5 MONTHS to get their dresses back. You should call around and shop around first and then once you find a salon that carries the dresses you like ask them about their policy.

At ours, the girls must put full price down before ordering. I would order earlier than April to leave room for alterations b/c with all those pregnant BM's they're definitely going to need them
