Too Early to Book Honeymoon?

AF412, on May 4, 2018 at 10:50 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 22

How early did you book your honeymoon?

We're getting married next March and have decided on Punta Cana.

Most of the larger airlines have already released airfare for our dates. I've found a few good flights with reasonable prices. I don't expect the budget airlines to release their schedules until late summer or fall.

Would you book now or wait?

My only worry is that we're honeymooning around Spring Break time. I don't want to wait too long and the good flights sell out.

As someone who travels internationally regularly, I always recommend handling bookings earlier than later! Especially if the time of the honeymoon conflicts with high-travel season.

Usually when booking a normal vacation my parents book it pretty far out in advance. Prices are lower the further out you go, too, and if you get good trip insurance, if something happens, normally you can get a good chunk if not all of your money back!

I would say do sooner than later! You never know what may change.
Recently just to attend my brothers graduation (flying there) I held off getting a rental car and when I booked and ended up paying nearly double what I normally do.
We are also getting married around college spring break time in 2019 so I need to keep in mind of that also!

Not too early, I'd treat it like any vacation and book in advance. Our wedding is mot until June 2019. We booked our honeymoon to Sandals Royal Barbados a few days ago and i was bummed because the room that I originally wanted was sold out.

I understand that most people do not schedule travel earlier than three to six months before their travels. I have, personally, always tried to schedule travel a year or more in advance, so I don't imagine that scheduling your flight now before prices increase would be considred too early.

If you see good flights now I would book them if I were you. Just because I panic when I don't have things set in stone lol

We booked our honeymoon for next April this past March so it's not too early

I would book your flight at least, as soon as you can. Then you can hotel shop and activity shop without being stressed about how you get there. We are booking our Hawaii honeymoon 6+ months in advance.

In the case of your honeymoon, I would say the earlier, the better.

We are going to Santorini, Greece in August of this year and we bookef our flight and room in September and found a really great price that way. One of our flight times did change since then to 30 mins later but thankfully it doesn't make a difference. That would be the only draw back of booking early. Smiley smile

I agree with all pp. The earlier you book, the cheaper it will be. Especially if it's "peak season" for vacation spots. Also it gives you more cushion if you decide to cancel. Some places will let you cancel a certain amount of time in advance. You also stand a better chance of having a good selection of rooms to choose from.

The earlier the better. Depending who you go through, they sometimes give special deals to early bookers.

My FH and I aren’t getting married til the end of May 2019 but the honeymoon was one of the first things we booked. It’s been booked since this past March. Now we just need to wait til flights come available closer to time and book those. For trips like that, sooner is always better!

We are also going to Punta Cana! We booked as soon as flights were avaliable so it was just shy of one year in advance. We also went through a travel agent so we could make payments over a few months rather than the whole 4k up front!

Usually flights are cheaper the earlier you book, except maybe last minute deals that didn't sell out but obviously you're not going for those. The only thing that usually hangs me up with booking trips early is not knowing if I'll have off or if something else will conflict - if this is assured with your work schedules, I don't see why you shouldn't go ahead and book!

However, in the Caribbean especially there are quite often really good deals on travel that pop up, like through Groupon or travel companies - you might benefit from doing additional research and waiting to find a good all-inclusive package deal - for example I went with a friend to the Caribbean a few years ago through groupon and paid like $350 for 4 nights, direct flights, transportation to and from airport to our hotel, and the place we stayed was gorgeous and right on the water. Since you have so much time, maybe try your luck to find a crazy deal!

Definitely wait on flights. download an app called hopper. it will give you the current rates and what to expect and when to book. also sign up with major airlines for emails for deals. they may have random deals that are amazing to book. I missed out on booking for cheap because I waited for FH to wake up to confirm and I regret it. He works opposite of me and I second guessed myself. Stupid on my part.

As all other stated, it’s best to book early. We’re going on our honeymoon in August this year and we booked our flights and resort 7 months in advance. I just check on some of the flights right now for trip and there about $100-$200 more. Every little bit helps when your wedding planning. That extra $200-$400 can be used on the honeymoon 😊

It's definitely better to book early. Our wedding is in September and we booked ours at the beginning of the year.

No no no...I’d wait! Cheapest flights are very rarely available this far out. A recent study said the magic time to buy is 60-70 days before travel...granted most of us planner personality types get anxious and can’t wait that long. Sign up for Google flight alerts and look at the annual history of flight costs between your home airport and destination.

I travel A LOT. We went to Barcelona Spain a couple months ago from San Jose Ca for $340 round trip per person. And our honeymoon to France next month is not much more than that.

If your destination is negotiable, you might also consider signing up for Pomelotravel.com alert emails too if you are open to other destination options and can jump on a deal when you see it. Just to see what’s out there... good luck have a great trip!
