Too early for Save the Dates?

Brooklynn, on July 8, 2018 at 9:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

My fiance and I have decided on a wedding date, and I want to try to get a majority of the details finalized before I begin the stress of Graduate School in August. Is it too early to send out Save-the-Dates in August for a July 2019 wedding?

Yes, it is too early. You should send out save the dates 6-8 months before the wedding, a little earlier than that if you're having a DW. If you feel confident that nothing will change in the next few months, you can order or print the STD's now so that all you have to do in January is send them.

Way to early. No one will remember, or they will get lost. Like above says, if you can print them now and mail them later do that. Or you don’t need to send them at all if you’re stressed. IMO they are an unnecessary expense unless you have a DW or a ton of out of state people coming.

We are sending ours out a year early. We have out of town guest. I know some jobs you have to ask your time off in January. People start planning vacation and so on. Plus my job time off first come first serve. Not a lot can have the same time off. So 6 months notice for out of town wedding people may already have off.

Hi Brooklyn! Welcome to WeddingWire and congrats on your engagement! Smiley heart

Typically, STDs are sent out 6-8 months prior to your wedding date. It's a little early with your wedding a year away still. However, your situation makes sense, with graduate school stress starting soon, too.

Maybe setting up and finalizing your STDs and details so that they're ready to be mailed out in about a month or two? If that's possible, taking care of the logistics now so they're ready to go.

If not, honestly it would be understandable if you sent them out a little early & got them off your to-do list now, prior to school starting.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions throughout your wedding planning process, please don't hesitate to connect or post another discussion in our Community!

We are sending ours out in late August/early September for our July 2019 wedding! Most our guests are out of state. And it's in the Summer, so I know a lot of people make vacation plans early. I've already had a few people ask the date so they could write it down and have it in mind when making plans for next year.
