Too Depressing?

Sara, on June 14, 2019 at 11:26 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

FH and I were talking and we were thinking of dedicating a special dance (that anyone can dance to) to my Nana and his grandpa who passed away.

The song is "You Should be Here" by Cole Swindell

Is this too depressing? They meant a lot to us.

I think this really depends on your crowd. It would send most of my FH’s family into hysterics if we did this. If your family would be ok, I don’t think it’s bad to do. Just be aware that it might make some people emotional.

If your families are okay with it, because you never know how people will react, then go for it. We're getting married on what would be my grandparents' 73rd wedding anniversary so we've decided on having a small prayer during the ceremony.

    I personally don't think it's too depressing.

We are going to do a song dedication too but I'm going to pick a happy song that he liked to honor my fh's brother who passed away when we were 15.

Maybe pick a happier song they would've liked or a song from their time and dedicate to them? I love that song You Should Be Here, but in case anyone in your families have an issue with it being sad, that could be an alternative.

Personally, I can't do this. I am an emotional person and I don't want to be an emotional wreck during the reception. I will be doing a memorial table instead, for my dad and the grandparents that passed away.

I think this is a wonderful idea. A beautiful way to honor those who couldn't be with you on your special day and meant so much to you.

Know your crowd, if it's a recent passing it might be sensitive still. If it's not so recent don't worry about it

Not at all! We are doing the same exact thing. Our song will be "One More Day" by Diamond Rio. It's a great way to honor them.

Not at all, it's the same song i'm using at my wedding to honor his parents, my parents, his two brothers, his sister, my best friend/cousin and my grandma who have all passed away. I think it's a beautiful song. Is it a little sad? sure, but I think it's perfect
