TOMs as BM gift?

Laura, on November 1, 2013 at 4:29 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

So I was thinking about having my girls wear toms and to get them for them as their gift. However, I'd obviously get them all the same ones. Does that take away from the gift aspect of it? Lioe giving them a gift but telling them what it exactly has to be?

Also would it look off if they are wearing toms but myself and the guys are not?

Do any bridesmaids get to pick their gift? I wouldn't worry about that at all.

What comes to my mind is that they might look too casual, depending on the style of your wedding. Apparently they make high heel toms though. (Had to Google it and pic popped up)

I'm buying their shoes as one of their gifts (because they're pretty specific shoes).

If the toms go with the style, then I wouldn't worry. But if the guys are wearing nice shiny shoes, then the toms might look a little odd.

I would not; a gift isn't a gift if it serves *you* as well. Having been a bridesmaid many times over, the gifts that served the bride were my least favorite. I have tons of jewelry I'll never wear again -- it is mandatory bridesmaid attire disguised as a gift. Might as well donate money in her honor and take the tax deduction for yourself -- same thing. (Can you tell I'm not a fan of that one either?)

Having said that, I don't want to offend anyone who has a different opinion, so here's a great reminder of a post not too long ago: "I am a stranger who has some advice about your life." So take it for what it is. Advice from a stranger.

Thank you all for the input! I think I may get them different shoes for the ceremony and maybe give them a toms gift card and let them pick what they want for the reception if I get a job soon and can afford it!

I, personally, would only do that if I knew they liked Toms. Some people hate them.

I will be wearing Toms with my dress (I think!) because I am only an inch shorter than FH and I want to be comfy and who sees them!?

I think that if you want them to wear the toms, it would be nice to give them as a gift. Personally, I don't like toms (I really wanted to like them, but thought they looked too pointy!), and would be a little annoyed if I had to buy them to wear in a wedding, and wouldn't use them again afterwords. But some of your BM's might love them, and think they're an amazing gift! I think it just depends on your girls.
