Toll Road

Hahnsolo, on June 15, 2017 at 10:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

So thinking about my OOT guest, the beat route to the venue will take guest down a toll road. It isn't too bad cost wise, but will more than likely be on it for a while. Do you just give people heads up verbally? Or how should you word this on an invitation if you do? I live in NC where toll roads aren't common. It really isnt a huge deal, but something i thought about earlier this week.

Coming from CA where toll roads aren't really a thing ANYWHERE except bridges, I would not be prepared to pay a toll if I was a guest traveling to your wedding.

If you have a wedding website you could mention it there, otherwise word of mouth.

ETA: if someone were to Google directions to your venue would it tell them there are tolls?

Like a few dollars or 20-30-40 or more?

Most gps routes note that a toll road is such.

If you are including a direction card or a link with directions, you could mention it.

I think it depends on how common tolls are in your area. We are from NJ/PA and toll roads are fairly common so I never would have thought to warn out of town guests about a toll. When you provide directions in your invitation I would just indicate it underneath the way google maps does. Ex: Take Route 123 (Road contains tolls). Or something along that line.

Perfect! Thanks! The ones traveling from Maine and Vermont will be use to it, though I doubt they will hit it. But the people traveling from FL, CO, and around Charlotte will. I think we may have one major toll road in our area so yes, not common at all. Again, thanks Smiley smile

My venue has a toll that can't be avoided. It's $8 but I don't plan on saying anything because local guests know and out of towners driving shouldn't be too surprised by a toll in our area. I'm making sure to block hotels that are on the same side of the city though so they don't hit it leaving the wedding.

I think it isn't really a big deal. I don't think anyone relies on directions on invitations anymore. Most people rely on navigation systems or google maps or the like, which always offers a non-toll alternative. I seriously would not give this a second thought.

How many OOT guests do you have? Maybe just warn them verbally, or as others have suggested add it to your website (if you have one), or the additional info/directions card.

I wish I lived somewhere that didn't have tolls... I pay 6 tolls a day round trip to and from work...

OP, I am in the same area and know which road you are talking about. The cost isn't that much so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I would maybe give them a heads up verbally or put it on your wedding website if you have one. Also, when using GPS it does tell you that the shortest route is a toll road so that will give them an option as well.

I don't think too many people will care. I live in an area where tolls weren't really a thing unless you went to the OBX but now they are on almost all the bridges. It can be a pain but if they are like our tolls in Hampton Roads they take a picture of the plate and send you a bill later.

@EM most of the times google maps will tell you if it is a toll road.

85% of our guest are OOT. And oddly enough, the most feasible way to the venue is through the toll road, quicker. But i do plan on having an alternate route, which is going up atleast 10-15 exits on the interstate.

@mandy. Yea, i took that road everyday coming from springlake to cary for work. It wasn't bad and its all digitally done but still can be a pain. And majority of muly guest dont know about 540, they live down near the charlotte area.

The guests from FL shouldn't be surprised by tolls. FH and I just moved here in January and there are tolls EVERYWHERE haha

Honestly not to sound harsh, but if they would want to pay for the tolls, they can. If they don't? There's a setting on every map app that you can use to avoid tolls. Don't stress over it. A heads up would be kind of you, though. I would just tell people if they ask you by word of mouth.

We have one and we're just warning people word of mouth especially those people who we know never carry cash on them, we may also put it on our wedding website, but i wouldnt put it on the invite you dont want to over load them with information your invites will look cluttered Smiley smile

Hahah I know exactly what toll road you're talking about! We drive through it on our way down to Pinehurst from DC.

I wouldn't worry about it too much! Even though tolls are unexpected in NC there are alternate routes around that one as well Smiley smile And like Mandy said it shows up on my google maps that you're being directed on to a toll road!

I don't think its a big deal. 99.9% of your guests will GPS directions, and GPS tell when there is a toll road.

We went to a wedding across the country last year. The couple lives right near where they got married. We had to rent a car, and drive a toll road to get to the hotel and to get to the venue. They definitely knew about the tolls and didn't give a heads up to anyone. We had to use the detour on the gps to avoid the roads and it cost us time. I would absolutely give your guests a heads up via website and by phone/text/other direct message.

I agree, giving a heads up would be great. Yes, GPS usually tells you there is a toll road but people may not think to get cash until the last minute when they pull up the directions. Letting them know ahead of time would ensure they have plenty of time to have cash.

I would definitely mention it and if possible give them an alternative non toll way to your wedding

If it is an toll that requires exact change, I would give a heads up, but otherwise people research how long it is going to take to drive somewhere and the toll road will be pointed out.

It's all digital, just takes pic of the license plates and mails you a bill. Thank you everyone for the advice! I will do word of mouth. Though, we did our epics the other night at the venue and he didn't have to get on the toll road so maybe it didn't route him, which is odd cause it's the beat route.
