"To wear shoes or no shoes for my beach wedding", that's the question

Carolyn, on July 13, 2021 at 1:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 13

I am getting married on the beach in December and I cannot decide if I should just go barefoot. My dilemma is that I'm only 5'4" and "curvy" so me going barefoot or with flats is not my ideal look, but wearing shoes on any beach is not easy. Any suggestions? BTW; My dress is full length.

I personally would do barefoot with foot jewelry. It also depends on how far into the beach you are going and the weather though. But barefoot would be my preference.

I got married on the beach and definitely recommend barefoot. It’s hard to walk in shoes on the beach. If you don’t mind your dress dragging a bit on the beach you could wear heels for your reception.

Barefoot! You don't want to be struggling while you walk down to your groom.

I think I'd wear a jewelled sandal, and then change into heels for the reception, which presumably isn't on the actual beach.

If you're worried about your height though, what about wedges? If you must wear heels these seem like the safest option.

I'd wear ankle jewelry but go barefoot for the ceremony and wear heels/sandals for the reception. Sand has a habit of getting into all sorts of uncomfortable spots when wearing shoes on a beach. Would you really want to feel uncomfortable walking down the sand aisle with sand rubbing inside your shoes?

If you are on the sand, it’s easiest if everyone is barefoot. No one will see your feet anyway unless your dress is short.

I purchased some blingy sandals to wear for our beach ceremony. I’m not going barefoot because our ceremony is at 2 PM and I’m afraid that the sand may still be pretty hot. Plus, this particular beach doesn’t have the finest grain of sand either. So we’re also providing flip-flops for guests if they don’t want to deal with sand in their shoes. But I think I’m going to wear the sandals the whole night. I thought of only wearing them for the ceremony and changing into heels for the reception. But I don’t want to have my dress altered for heels and then it drags too long during the ceremony. Also, I likely wouldn’t remain in heels the whole time for the reception anyway. I figure that it’s already difficult enough maneuvering in sand, so to have a dress that’s too long in the sand seems like a bad idea (unless you’re fine with holding up the dress with one hand and holdingyour bouquet in the other).

I'd wear flats 100%. The sand might be hot, you might step on a shell or worse. Your dress is long, no one will see your shoes

I had this same dilemma (I'm 5'1") and my dress had been significantly altered for heels pre-Covid. I ended up wearing wedge heels. It wasn't exactly comfortable but I'm glad I did it - my photos came out a lot better imo and walking was generally fine.

Our beach wedding was yesterday! I had a similar challenge (although I am 5’6” so not the height part of the issue). I initially planned to wear to something similar to what Emilia posted above, but we used a beach front hotel for our venue & although I am totally fine walking barefoot on the beach not so much elevators & other areas of a hotel.

I ended up with dressy flats (white sandals with leather flowers set into the clear almost vinyl stuff used on shoes to give the illusion of “nothing/naked”. (See picture) My plan was to wear them to the edge of the sand & then kick them off for the ceremony on the sand & wear them for the reception.

It ended up raining a couple hours before the ceremony start time & the hotel moved our ceremony location to a covered deck (which everything was perfect BTW) & I ended up wearing them all night.

"To wear shoes or no shoes for my beach wedding", that's the question 2

Depends if you’ll need any …. I’m also having a beach wedding and I’ll be having a pair of sandals just in case , I’m not able to walk barefoot but most likely I won’t be wearing any .I would say just have a pair in case.

We are doing a beach wedding, too! I was planning on foot jewelry as pictured above for the ceremony and a wedge sandal for everything else. I am thinking I'll just slip the sandal over the jewelry and wear them together. I do worry a bit about the sand being hot, but our ceremony will be in the morning.
