To wear or not to wear....

Sakina, on November 11, 2020 at 9:36 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22
Is it good to not wear a bra with a strapless dress? I have my fitting today and I'm debating. Not sure if it's a good idea or not....Might be more comfortable lol...any advice?

It’s personal preference. I could never go braless, but it depends on your chest size and your comfort level.

I have the same question as my first fitting is on Saturday. I think it may depend on your dress and your comfort level with/without a strapless bra. I plan to take one with me just in case I feel like I need/want it. It's better to take it and not need it than to need it and not have it (or at least take it with you just in case). Good luck with your fitting today! Smiley smile

I definitely felt the need for a bra! I wore a bustier under my dress because the back was low, and a regular strapless wouldn't have worked.

It depends on the style of the dress. Cups sewn into a dress aren't designed for support. Padding for your nipples is basically all they are.

You may be able to wear a corset that has support, a better designed strapless bra from HoneyLove or Shapermint or a therabbitbra.com if your dress has a low back or split front. Most of those have trial periods to see what works best.

My dress had built-in cups so a strapless bra wasn't necessary, but I would've worn a strapless bra if it didn't have cups sewn in already.

Regular strapless bras aren't really designed for wedding dresses unfortunately, you might have to get a specialty bra. I prefer having the cups sewn in though. Good luck!!

I went braless and wore a strapless dress. I didn’t have any issues. (Im a DDD for reference)
My dress had enough support with boning and it had a bra like strap Inside to help keep it in place. Plus once it was altered to fit me it was nice a snug. And I find strapless bras incredibly uncomfortable so I wouldn’t have wanted to wear one.

It really depends on the dress. I am a 34G, so...not small lol. My strapless dress had a corset built into the inside of it, so that actually provided tons of support (honestly, more than a strapless bra ever has). I was shocked because I didn't think I could go braless, but I did and I was good all night.

If you have a strapless dress with a structured bodice and don't have really big boobs, I think it's way more comfortable to go braless. If you have cups put into the dress, the dress material is supportive (bonus if it has light boning), and the dress is fitted properly to you, you'll feel plenty supported and the dress won't budge during the night. Strapless bras, in my experience, rarely stay put, and they're hot and itchy over time. I find going braless way more comfortable (I'm roughly 32D bra size).

A dress with a corset or bustier style bodice that has boning will probably offer plenty of support for modest sized boobs. If your dress is made of a thinner crepe material, silk, or something delicate like illusion lace, you may need more support than the fabric itself can provide.

If you do go braless, depending on your dress, it can be good to get some nipple covers to prevent a nip slip in the event of a wardrobe malfunction (for example, if you raise your arms overhead and the bodice is super structured, it might be enough to "lift" your boobs out of the dress). There are slim silicone ones that are reusable, non-irritating, and discrete. I've never used the tape style ones, but would be wary of anything with adhesive that could rip sensitive skin.

Mine isn't strapless, but my only option would be a sticky bra bc it has a low back and side cut-outs. I hate sticky bras with a passion, so I'm going to have my straps adjusted to hold the girls in place.

Maybe there's something your seamstress can do to help you out? It's all about comfort.
