To wear or not to wear, that is my question!

Dulcena, on July 28, 2020 at 1:28 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

We made a really hard decision tonight to postpone our wedding on Sept 18th and reschedule for next year. We had only 1 couple RSVP so far. Here in southern CA the wedding coordinator informed us that a wedding is not allowed at this time. We could have the ceremony and eat dinner but no dancing or anything looking like a "party". We are going to the beach or our front yard and getting married on Sept 18th. Next year we will have the wedding again on our 1st anniversary at the venue since we cant get a refund.

So here is my question. I'm unsure if I should wear my wedding dress twice? My dress is silk chiffon and I'm afraid of getting grass stains or runs in it. I am thinking of buying a beach dress to wear this year. Should I just go for it and wear the dress twice? Sigh I don't know what to do.....

Rock your dress as much as you can. Some women barely wear theirs for a whole hour before changing into something else despite it being not cheap. You have the opportunity to wear yours on 2 occasions so take advantage of that.

You typically don't get grass stains on anything unless you are playing hard in it. So I wouldn't worry. A reputable cleaner should not have difficulty with it afterward.

The good thing is you have time. You can wear what you have now and go shopping for something different within the year. I have 2 dresses because we're doing a DW in Jamaica and I wanted a different dress for our stateside reception that has now been postponed to a 1 year anniversary celebration. 2 different styles and visions.

I agree with pp - wear it as many chances you can get. There’s only so many times we can wear that dress

Most people only get to wear their dress once. I say why not take advantage and get the most of it. If it gets dirty you can always get it professionally cleaned.

I would totally wear the dress twice! As other comments have said, most people only get to wear theirs once. If it gets dirty, it can always be professionally cleaned before you wear it again!

If you want to wear your dress twice there's absolutely no reason why you can't. If you want to buy another dress, by all means do. Just because this is a vow renewal doesn't mean you can't wear the same dress. Just make sure you get it professionally cleaned

I’ve decided to wear a different dress for each occassion. Could you wear the chiffon dress now and then decide later if you want to wear it again or get another dress for the second occasion?

I’m wearing mine for our small ceremony now in case our big reception next year doesn’t happen due to COVID or whatever and then at least I got to wear it once!

I would definitely wear it again. I’m in Socal also and my venue is closed. I’ve decided to transform my backyard so that we could get married as planned.

Why not rock the beautiful dress twice? If you love it, go for it. But if closer to the next event you change your mind, that's your perogative too.

I'm wearing mine twice! I was a bit worried about it, so I looked up how to keep a wedding dress clean outside. One suggestion I saw was to wear a petticoat underneath the dress to keep it off the ground, so you could try that. I don't think you're likely to get grass stains on it anywhere other than the hem, unless you fall and slide through the grass. In the end I decided that I'll just get it cleaned and if anything doesn't come out, I'll get over it. It's not like I'm pretending our first wedding isn't happening. Weird dress stains might just be part of life in 2020 and I don't want our pictures to show something that isn't authentic.

Follow your heart! If you're feeling like buying something new - go for it! If you want to rock your wedding dress twice - go for it!! 😉❤️

I'd leap at the chance to wear my wedding dress again, and you've got plenty of time to get the dress cleaned and any stains removed if necessary!

Thanks for all the advice, I cant tell you how much I appreciate it! Smiley heart

My stomach is in knots because today I have to call all the vendors and ask to reschedule for next year. I really don't want too, but I know its the best thing to do for us and our guests. Maybe this way we will be able to celebrate with more of our family and friends.

I think I will wear my wedding dress. Its at the seamstress right now. I'm having bustle buttons added to it and I think I'll keep the train up to avoid any mishaps. BUT I'm getting the other dress to. Great excuse to myself for a new dress lol. I'll change into it when I get home. I think we'll have a cheese and wine get together when we get home. We are only having our BM and MOH there with us.

We did a mini ceremony outdoors and postponed our wedding and reception to next year. I wore my wedding dress (lace with a long train, satin lining) and walked all over grass, dirt, and gravel and my dress came out 100% fine (I did need to hand pick sticks and other bramble out of the lace, but no damage or stains whatsoever). It was supposed to rain that day but didn't, so conditions were dry and wearing my dress ended up being a non-issue.

Make sure you mow your law 2 days or more before the wedding (fresh cut grass will "bleed" more) and just be careful with your dress and you should be okay as long as conditions are dry!

I spoke to someone that had to postpone her wedding for next year. She had a small ceremony this year anyway and she said the one thing she regrets is not wearing her wedding dress. She told me that the small ceremony was so intimate and special that it was worthy of her wearing it. Hearing her say that made me realize I am going to wear mine for our small ceremony and our big one next year. Hope that helps ☺️

I am in the same shoes as you are! We decided to postpone next year as well but have a small
Intimate wedding this year at the beach. This is just my opinion, I want our next year vow renewal to feel special still so I’m holding off on my dress to wear until then. I’m going to find a sun dress to wear for the beach. We also aren’t doing professional pics this time and my family will wear shorts and button up shirts and flip flops. Just my opinion. I am having a hard time having a small ceremony and celebrating next year so this is a way I can still be excited for next year
