to wear a veil or not to wear a veil? that is the question...

sarahwedding2010, on November 29, 2009 at 9:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

So here is my issue... I don't want to wear a veil, I don't see the necessity in it. However I don't want to break the normal THING to do... the problem is I havent been to a wedding in quite a few years and I don't remember if that bride wore one either!!

Now i know most people would respond and say do whatever you wat to do because it is your wedding and I intend on doing that in the end but I just really want to know the proper veil protocol... any suggestions?>

You could always wear one for the ceremony and then take it off for the reception. That way you get some pics with you wearing it and some without you wearing it. But yes you are right most responses are going to tell you to do what makes you happy, not what tradition is.

I'm not wearing a traditional veil, I'm wearing a birdcage that just goes across the eyes, whese are just some ideas of what you can do, but if I don't wear that I'm just going to have a feathered head piece http://www.mariellonline.com/index.php/catalog/category/bridal-veils_feather_fascinators/P8/ and http://www.mariellonline.com/index.php/catalog/category/bridal-veils_feather_fascinators/P0/ it's just some were to start, because I don't think I want to have it white either.... but I'm not SUPER traditional either...

I believe traditionally, the bride wears a veil down the aisle....and then takes off for reception and the entrance because since you're a married woman after the ceremony, you don't need to wear a veil.......It is much more common and acceptable nowadays if the bride does not wear a veil......I wore one because I'm more traditional....

If I saw a bride not wearing one, particularly for a more modern style wedding/destination or modern dress, I wouldn't even question it. It's just not her style and if anything, despite everyone's two cents on the wedding day or during the planning process, I love it when I see a brides's individual style and personality because she supposedly is only doing this once and I'm happy when it's reflective of her personality and her wishes.

I knew without thinking that I was going to go with big hair and flowers. Don't worry about what is 'traditional'. Do YOU want a veil or not? For me, big hair (chance to have a voluminous up do - not crazy 80's hair) doesn't mix well with a veil!! Smiley smile

I am not wearing a veil. i don't like the look of them and i dont' think a veil would look right with the dress i chose. i am planning on either wearing a tiara or some other type of hair comb/pin. i have to decide on my hair style first. i cut my hair short just before we set a date so now i'm trying to see how much it will grow out before the wedding lol.

I've been on the fence about wearing a veil and I'm currently in the position of not wearing one. Instead I'm wearing a tiara. While I've seen many bridal pictures of women with both a tiara and a veil I don't see the need to spend additional money on something I'm going to take off right after the ceremony. This also gives me more options to do something different with my hair. The current trend seems to be there is no real trend. Brides have endless options and are making their wedding unique to their personality and style.

I think that the tradition was the bride wears a veil. But now, more brides are going away from tradition. I am not wearing a veil. I am planning on wearing flowers in my hair.

I didn't wear a veil either. I thought it detracted from the dress somehow. I wore a flowery sparkly clip instead.

I don't really care for veils either but my FH asked me if I would wear one. I'm considering it I haven't mentioned it to him though, I just may surprise him. I figured since he been very accommodating as far as the decor and colors I could do this for him.

I originally wanted to wear a veil but with the hair style and accessory I chose I'm not sure how that will even work now. I have a nice sparkly barrette that I'm wearing and I think it would look great if the veil flowed out of that, but I'm not sure how that will work since the veils comb is larger than the barrette. So I'm toying with the idea of not wearing one. Still on the fence about it tho!

I'm not wearing a veil. I don't like it with my dress. I got a very pretty Tiara thing and that's all i'm wearing on my head (besides hair pins and hairspray LOL!)

OK so i feel you dilema. I was the same way...I didnt want a veil and my mom kept saying you need to wear a veil.

Well one day I went to find the dress which I did but I didn't want a veil and my consultant said just try it on. and I did and feel in love. It wont hurt to try on a veil but if you absoulty can't stand it than dont wear one.

My logic on the viel is this: Try one on with your dress, try on many, (in my case, I found out I'm not a veil person at all) If you like it, then see if it's in your price range, list the pro's and con's (becuase I don't like veils, I only came up with cons)

    Cons:

-Added expense for wearing only for the ceremony and photos, because let's face it, it will most likeley come off because it's going to get hot from dancing, tugging when people hug you, etc.

    Pro:

It looks nice with the dress and what not

If price is a factor, they have lots of great price veils at www.wedding-veil.com I've heard several brides who've gotten their veils from this site say that they felt the quality was good. I just ordered one today so I'll let you all know what it's like when I get it.
