To Temu or not to Temu?

Tasha, on June 5, 2025 at 10:51 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 3
The diy dilemma of ordering offline. Temu, Amazon, and the several other online shops. This never ending rabbit hole of decor, center pieces, and fake floral is overwhelming. The goal to get the deal and allocate the remaining budget to another item. What websites and products have you come across? I don't need much in decor but I also don't want the reception to look tacky or plain. Any brides with a decoration budget of $500 or less? How's the process going? What tips and tricks have you discovered? I have 2 years to gather and purchase. Drop your suggestions and tips in the comments please and thank you!

I suggested to one bride whose venue had plain walls to possibly decorate around their table using posters or even wallpaper or wrapping paper using stick poster (removal) tape to hold that up. It could be a floral or pleasant theme. Another idea came to mind of figuring how to do this with a bolt of fabric. A big element here is just to make the center of focus look petter. That is what will mostly be captured in photos of your wedding. You can also add some live plants.

Some say decor is the last priority in the budget. Others are swept up in Pinterest ideas of other people's weddings. I say go with what you can practically carry and keep track of because whatever is brought in, must be brought out by someone. For me, less is more. So first start with the overall vibe you and your partner want to project for your wedding. And then use minimalism and your creativity as valuable tools. DIY custom made centerpieces. Anything made by hand will be special and unique. As for supplies, I would buy less fake and plastic if you want to stay away from tacky. Perhaps stay away from faux flowers altogether, though I do hear of good companies that dye wood flowers. Potted plants may be economical as well if you still want greenery. If you like less boring, go for colored tablecloths. Good luck.

So my wedding is going to be late fall (next year), and it's a very boho vibe so it'll be more... mix and match, I guess would be the best description. My best friend is getting married this August and the florals we got for decorating, she picked and kept from Michaels. Whatever you do, stay away from eucalyptus garlands bought through Amazon... she had to send some back because it SMELLED, so bad. Like chemicals. It might be cheaper (Amazon, Temu, etc) but some of that stuff... man, it's hit or miss.

In her case, she wanted a lot of wisteria garland too, and the ones she got from Michaels (6 feet long) look beautiful. Soft, natural, and no smell. I'd start there.

Funny enough, the Dollar Tree actually has a lot of decent florals for centerpeices and other wedding decor items, at least the ones near me.
