To Shuttle or Not to Shuttle?

Alisa, on October 18, 2019 at 10:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
I am wondering if I need to get a shuttle for my guests.

We are inviting 110 people. Most of the guests are local, within 15 miles, from the venue. The groom's side of the family will be coming from out of town and we need to get five hotels rooms for them. The venue is about 5 miles / less than 10 minutes by car from the hotel. Would it be inconsiderate to only coordinate transportation for the groom's family?

Are all of your local guests travelling home after the reception or are they staying in hotels nearby? If they're travelling on their own, there's no need to coordinate transportation for them. Coordinating transportation for your OOT guests is more of a courtesy since they probably don't have their cars with them and/or aren't familiar with the area - an issue your local guests don't have. Providing transportation from the hotel to the ceremony / reception and back is definitely a nice thing to do, but it's not required. Usually if the venues are close to the hotel and in a city where cabs/rideshares are readily available, there is less of a pressure to get outside transportation. Check with the hotel where you have the room block, they might offer a shuttle service for a small fee.

How are the OOT guests getting to the city where the wedding is? If they are driving in or flying and renting cars, I'd leave it to them to figure out their own transportation for the wedding. If they are flying, but then you/FH will be picking them up at the airport and transporting them to and from the hotel, then I'd either check into a hotel shuttle or give them the info for Uber/Lyft/etc. All daughter's OOT guests flew in and then rented cars, so we just let them figure out their transportation plans for the wedding.

Thank you for the feedback! Most of the OOT guests will have their own car.

I think it's odd to only provide transportation for some guests, yes. I'd offer it to all guests or none of the guests.
