To postpone or not postpone.. 10/25/20

Carissa, on May 9, 2020 at 10:30 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 30
Our wedding date is 10/25/20 and just about everything is paid for and ready to go. We're having a relatively intimate ceremony/reception with about 60 people but are trying to decide if October is far enough away to keep planning or if we need to make plans to elope instead. Have any October brides decided to cancel? The date is too important to us to pick another day and this will be the second year in a row that something out of our control made us postpone so I'm really not wanting to have to go through that again. I also obviously really don't want to be out that much money either... Thoughts?

If you’ve already paid for everything, I think you should wait a little longer.
What additional planning do you need? Where do you live?
Because you have a small number of guests, I think that you have a better chance of being allowed to have the wedding. We don’t know what is going to happen after the summer is over, but I would wait until August and see how the situation is then.

Aww. Maybe you guys can elope get married and celebrate with the family afterwards. If you two both are ok in y'all hearts with it. Or if you do elope and still want family maybe y'all can invite y'all parents and like 1 best friend or close friend of you and him.

The way the world looks you may still be able to do it 60 people wedding.

We're in California! The only planning left to do is pick out the suits lol everything else is ready to go.
We agreed waiting until after summer to really decide but I'm also worried about not being able to get any money back if we wait too long to cancel.. I'll have to reach out to my vendors and see if they have any contingency plans for covid

Definitely reach out! We did about a month ago and luckily they’re all flexible if we have to reschedule or cancel.

Unfortunately no one can really predict how this is all going to shake out, but I'd wait to postpone. States are opening back up and gatherings are starting to be allowed again. I feel like we're going to learn a lot in the next few months.

Our wedding is scheduled for the same date and we're sending out our save the dates, hoping it will work out. I'm in PA and most of the state, including where the venue is located, is still under stay at home orders. We have most of our vendors booked, but I'm waiting until the state opens up more to book hair/makeup, dress alterations & couple others. We're having a small wedding too, up to 75 guests. After talking with the venue coordinator, it seems the issue for weddings in the fall might be the number of people that will be allowed, so hopefully a small wedding will work out! 🤞🤞

Hi there! I work in the wedding world with event rentals and am also a bride this year. I have had brides rescheduling since March but the furthest out to rescheduled has been Aug 1. They only rescheduled by one month. With your wedding being more intimate at 60 guests, I would hold off on postponing as long as you can. If you decide to wait until later in the summer to make a firm decision, I would suggest sending out a note to your guests in the next few weeks to say that you’re monitoring the current conditions and keeping their health and safety in mind with planning but as of right now are holding fast to your special day.

My company is offering refunds or postponements with no additional fees. I think most companies in the industry are doing somewhat the same because the situation is hard on everyone right now and it’s one less thing for our brides to stress about. Definitely reach out to your vendors!

Thanks so much for this! I think being really transparent with our guests is a great idea because obviously they're experiencing this craziness as well. We also have a few immunocompromised family members the we're trying to protect as best as possible so I know they'll be understanding.

That is such a hard decision and predicament to be in. I feel your pain. We have already had to postpone our original wedding date and would really not like to wait any longer. Our wedding is June 28th, 2020 and we're hanging onto hope for now unless we see conflicting information. We live in Florida, and things seem to be slowly reopening so we're just keeping a close eye on the restrictions as they change. The way I've been thinking about it, is I'm not postponing (again) unless I have no other choice. It would be so much more heartbreaking to see our wedding date come and go as if it could've happened and not be able to get married because we already postponed for a later date. Also, your wedding day is my fiance's birthday! Sending good vibes your way that it all works out for you!

I moved mine to 09/25/21 just to be safe because by September/october I dont see us being over all this. Also say if we are over with this some guest may not want to attend. Gotta think big sporting events and concerts are all cancled this year for a reason you know.

Hey date twin! 💕 We're also in California in the bay area and so far our venue has said to reach out when its a little closer. Our venue is offering to postpone or refund with no penalties. We're remaining hopeful that we'll still have a wedding with 110 guests but are aware we may need to cut down our list.

All our vendors are pretty much paid for so fingers crossed 🤞we can move forward.
