To Marry in August or November

Mrs.RtoBe, on February 2, 2016 at 5:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

I know my date on here says august 5th 2017, but at this time fiancé and I have not booked a venue yet so I can't say we have a official date. But now I am starting to wonder if we should get married in November 2017. I'm thinking november because we may have to change the date to november because of some unexpected financial difficulties. Are there benefits of getting married in August or are there more benefits in getting married in november?

    November! Woohooo!!

I have no reason why, other than that's the month I'm getting married.

It all depends on venue. they almost kind of set the date for you cos they book out super far in advance.

Hi Shay! This would depend on a lot of different factors. Where are you getting married? What's the weather like in August and November? Do you want to get married outside or inside? Are August or November considered peak wedding season in your wedding location?

November will obviously give you a few more months to plan and save up money, but you can also start getting close to the holidays (to keep in mind if you want to go on a honeymoon directly after your wedding but are also limited with vacation time)

    Tell us a little more!

Where are you located? You can look up weather history for your area here: http://www.wunderground.com/history/

I'm having an early November wedding, because my area (Oklahoma) has a short, late window of great fall foliage and warm weather from Oct 20-Nov 10ish most years. But where I grew up (Connecticut), by November the leaves are down and it's cold.

Keep in mind that early November is when the clocks roll back, so if you want an outdoor ceremony your timeline will have to move at least an hour earlier.

Trying to get married in Dallas, Tx. In August it's usually hot. November it's sometimes warm in the daytime and cold at night. Want to have ceremony outside and reception inside. That I am aware of neither months are peak seasons.

@Emilyg thank you for mentioning the weather for November in Oklahoma because I have family that would be coming from there for the wedding. Setting it to November I was at first worried about because weather can be a little different up there compared to Texas. If we go with November I planned on trying to get a early November date also.

I'm also partial to November! (We only picked it because of venue availability)

November is definitely a very popular wedding month. Any of the fall months, really. Especially if it is an outdoor wedding. August can get extremely hot and icky depending on where you live.

I'm near Dallas! If you are set on an outdoor ceremony, do not get married in August. Your guests will be miserable. We're getting married in July but everything is inside with AC!

November is considered off season (better discounts) Smiley smile

Another benefit to November is if you want to take a honeymoon to somewhere tropical you get to leave the crappy winter weather Smiley smile I'm a November bride so I'm biased

You're welcome! And yeah, outdoor ceremony in TX in August is not going to be pleasant for anyone - especially not you in a heavy dress! I'd vote first weekend in November. Especially as you mentioned that would help you financially.

You may get better prices in November since it's not exactly peak season - my venue has rooms at a lower rate because we're juuuuuust outside that window.

Mine too! I got all kinds of stuff from my venue because it's their low season - even some extra time, and half-price rooms.

Shay - one more thing on Oklahoma weather, you know it's totally crazy up here, right? It's in the 60s and nice for the first week in Nov usually, but once you get to Nov 15 odds are temps are in the 30s and there can be ice storms by then. The weekend before Thanksgiving is usually well below freezing. I would reeeeally recommend going with the first or at most second weekend in November only, if people are traveling from OK.

November many places is low season so somethings *could* be cheaper. I would check pricing. Also sounds like the weather would be much better. I would give yourself the extra few months but remember that 1/3- 1/2 of your total wedding cost will be due in deposits as you book things. The rest will be due usually with in the month before. Come up with a savings plan to make sure you have the money you need. Good luck!

@Emilyg yes OK weather is crazy I know from visiting up there to see family and my mom and grandmother telling me about it from time to time. That was my biggest thing too for November. Just wanted to make sure I am not trying to get a November date when the weather is bad up there because I will have a lot of cancellations since most of my family is up there. Hopefully the venue I want to go with has availability in the beginning of November. Fingers crossed.

My wedding is in Aug and my birthday is Nov-----so both good choices. But I see you're in Texas? And you were thinking of being outdoors for more than 5 minutes------definitely a vote in favor of my birthday month. I'm in Savannah, GA but avoiding humidity by being indoors. Good luck!!
