To keg or not to keg

Ladylove30047, on June 23, 2016 at 4:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

OK so my bartender sent me the option of getting a keg of beer for $350 each or getting bottles for $4 each. I don't drink beer but that's one drink option so I'm trying to see if anyone has done a keg or if i should just do bottles... Help!! Lol

I'd personally choose a keg. I'm assuming that it will be set up behind the bar with the tap? (To keep the keg stands at bay...)

How many people? A keg is about 160 12oz beers. Cost wise it is MUCH better but if the keg doesn't get finished then what?

We actually had four kegs because we didn't like the beer that was included with the venue package. We got two (Lagunitas IPA AND Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat) from BevMo (at normal prices), and one of our guests did a home brew (an American Pale Ale) for us that yielded two kegs. We had leftover, but will use it for DH's drinking, er, running club.

Edit: omitted a word :p. The included wines were crap too, and they charge $10 corkage per bottle to bring our own, so we just pushed the beer (no charge to bring our own as long as we brought our own taps and buckets for them).

$350 seems excessive for a keg. Unless it's a craft beer? Even with a keg deposit of $75 (standard) usually a 15 gallon keg of IPA is less than $150 from a brewery. Are you able to provide the keg yourself? If so, I'd definitely do the keg.

Kegs are definitely more cost efficient but they leave zero variety. I'm struggling with this myself :/

ETA: my venue is charging $350-$400 for domestic and $400-$550 for imported for kegs

Holy Crap some of those keg prices are crazy!! We are having 3 kegs, dos equis, coors light, and Michelob ultra. Dos Equis is 132.99 and both Coors and Michelob are 108.99

I was also going to say that price sounds really high for a keg! But I think keg is usually the better way to go.

$12 for a bottle of wine depends on the brand of wine. Might be a fair price or if a cheap brand overpriced. Do you know the brand?

Our venue is a craft beer brewery. They charge consumption only, and it's $4-7 a glass. They do offer a prepaid version so everything is $5 though.

    1 keg = 124 pints*$5 =$620 for us.

We have aprox 150 guest. We hired a punch bar to do 2 signature cocktails and then we will have beer. We were told that one keg would suffice so for variety we are doing 2 slims.
