To hyphenate my name or not

I am still trying to decide if I should hyphenate my name or make my last name my middle name. Llewellyn-Keels??? it doesn't really flow that well. What have you all decided to do about your name change?

I'm taking his last name. My name full name is 25 letters, if I hyphenate my name it will be 31 wayy to long for me! As it is I only sign my name with my first initial and last name, its too long lol

I am on the fence with it all, for 2 reasons.

first is totally ridiculous- my initials are TNT and i love them and its me and i want to keep them Smiley sadSmiley sad

2nd, his ex wife is still Falck, and that irks me a little? Originally she wanted to keep his name because their daughter has his name, but now she is dating someone else and has another kid with him...so I am kinda hoping she will agree to go back to her maiden...blah!

I've always admired taking a maiden name as a middle name to honor the family, while for some reason I've always considered hyphenations to be some cop-out saying "I didn't want to take on his last name but he insisted so sigh here it is". No clue why I see it that way, so please don't take offense if you like the hyphenation! Smiley smile

I'm taking my FH's last name, and without even bringing it up he asked me if I wanted to. I thought it was so considerate that he freely gave me the option!

Trivia: In Roman times, the bride would assume her husband's actual name, i.e. if Julia (whose father would have been Julius) married Claudius, she would then become Claudia. I'm so glad I don't have to be Benjamina! Smiley tongue

My last name will become my middle name since I don't have a middle name and I will take my FH's last name.

I'm in the same boat. I definitely keeping my maiden name, but I'm not sure to have it as a second middle name or hyphenate it . Didn't have a brothers to pass the name along. My hubby to be offered to take my name, but I know both of our parents wouldn't agree to it.

I almost had a fight with my FH's brother over this. We're hyphenating, but putting his name first (like they do in South America). I don't see why I should have to take his name (I'm 32, financially independent, and proud of my identity), but I also wouldn't want to make him give up his symbolic family ties. We could just keep our last names, but we decided to combine them so that we're starting something symbolically new. It's just frustrating to me because his family seems so shocked that I'm not just taking his name, and then they ask, "is he hyphenating his name too?" Grrrr! How can people still think nothing of a woman giving up her family identity but balk at a man modifying his? I could understand it back when women didn't have an education or jobs, but we're no longer chattel.

Took his last name and made my maiden name my new middle name. Wasn't a hard decision at all!! Although when people, for example at dentist office, ask for a Mrs Harris they are surprised to see an Asian woman...
