To have a Rehearsal Dinner or not?

Abby, on April 3, 2013 at 11:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

My husband and I were married last august (military wedding...no family...you get the point). We are planning a vow renewal and reception for our two year anniversary. We aren't really having a bridal party since we are not bride and groom, we are husband and wife. However, we invited all of our siblings to be apart of the processional and the sisters will wear red dresses. They pretty much will be like a bridal party....anyways, with 4 sisters and 3 brothers along with both of our parents being involved in the processional (12 people total including my hubby and I) we most likely will need a rehearsal. My husband and I are paying for the majority of the renewal with some help from our parents and I'm not sure if we can afford a rehearsal dinner, but I know everyone will be expecting to go out after the rehearsal for dinner. What to do?

You can do something cheap for sure. Even a pot luck rehearsal or a pizza rehearsal dinner! You do not HAVE to have a RD though. This is totally up to you guys. Also, just because you are married doesn't mean you cant have a wedding party. You got married because you probably had to right? Don't let that take away from your day because your married!

I've seen people suggest a pot luck dinner. Or possibly a BBQ at your house after? I would suggest having something were everyone can get together before the big day... but without breaking the bank. If everyone involved is family, I'm sure they wouln't mind helping out if you decide not to pay for a meal at a restaurant!

If you're having a rehearsal, I'd have a rehearsal dinner. You're asking these people to take time out of their schedule to do this for you, it's polite to thank them by hosting a dinner. It doesn't have to be anything fancy - you could order pizza and salads and take them back home.

One of my favorite rehearsal dinners ever (I don't usually stay, but it was a destination and I was there for the whole weekend) was a pizza party at a cool pool hall. I thought it was brilliant and it didn't cost a fortune. Something really casual and fun; the whole next day is going to be a sea of timestamps, deadlines and happy stress; make this night relaxing.

Pizza and beer. That's all you need. They just want a little food. (that's what we did, the real meal was at the reception)
