To cross fade or not to cross fade? And other questions about ITunes DJ

COSeptBride, on June 27, 2014 at 4:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Due to the rural mountain location of our wedding, we will be using Itunes to DJ the wedding. I have no desire for the typical MC announcements, and we will not be doing a garter toss, bouquet toss, cake cutting, or the like. We carefully created and mapped out a great series of playlists after reading lots of do and don't lists. If you have successfully pulled off the Itunes wedding - I have a few questions for you.

1. Cross fade or no cross fade?

2. Did you use your laptop or did you use the wedding DJ app on your Iphone?

3. We built 4 playlists: Cocktail, Dinner, Early Dance, Late Dance. Programmed around the few breaks in dancing. Did you do this and how did it go?

4. Would love any other positive advice or lessons learned to help us pull it off!

Please and Thanks!

P.S. If you are reading this and cringing, please don't bother trying to talk me out of it! Looking for advice on how best to pull it off, not change the plan.

We're doing it too. Plan to have a laptop and 2 ipods with the playlists as back-up. I recommend having back-up plans! Other than that I'm following this thread, because we haven't started making our playlists yet.

Do you have any good resources for your Do and Don't Do's?

Sad to always hear we are being replaced by an IPod. That being said we know it’s not what everyone wants’

So here are some good old DJ pro tips.

Use cross fade for sure. Having breaks in the songs kills the vibe

The IPod will not always Cross fade well, so expect to hear some random stuff

Start with older classics to keep the older people around

Move to your “younger” stuff as the night moves on

Let know no one touch the IPod. Seriously it will become a gong show if everyone starts saying oooo I know a good song

Yeah, great advice! We are definitely having a couple backups. I have also heard if you use an Iphone you have to turn it to airplane mode or you risk getting calls and texts while music is playing.

Here are a couple great articles I kept going back to as we created our lists:

Sorry BPM Smiley sad There just isn't a DJ within 60 miles of my venue who doesn't want to be reimbursed for travel and lodging, which is understandable just not in my budget. Thanks for the pointers!

Do you need a 4th playlist -- Ceremony music? Prelude, processional, recessional.
