To cancel or not to cancel

Vanessa, on March 11, 2020 at 11:58 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13
I’ve been engaged for going on three years. My wedding has gone from a barn, to a tent, now a Villa in Mexico. It has also been postponed. I finally have a date, 11/22/20, and my save the dates are done and ready to ship out. I couldn’t more excited and happy to finally have my beautiful day.
My mother just called and asked if I’m going to have my wedding somewhere else or change the date. She says This coronavirus seems to be getting out of hand and no one should travel. I have been watching the news and I’ve seen the world taking precautions. Does that mean I should stop planning for November? I’ll be devastated if I have to plan another wedding, in another place, on another day, again.

My wedding is the day before yours and as of now I don’t see any reason to cancel. It kinda seems unreasonable to cancel this far in advance when no one really knows what 8 months from now will look like. I say keep planning Smiley smile

Deep breaths! I think a wedding in November should be plenty fine. It'll probably be controlled by that point, and people will either be living with it or over it. I say probably because no one could have predicted this week, but I would go ahead. You may not get as many people because fear might keep them from travelling, but unfortunately we'll just have to accept that.

I think you will be ok. That's 8 months away still. I think the brides with weddings in April and May are the ones who need to have some concerns but still should proceed with their plans unless it is mandated that they aren't allowed to have their wedding.

I'm getting married in November as well. And even though it isn't a destination wedding so to say, most of my guests will have to travel. FH and I talked about it the other night and decided that we wont even talk about postponing or canceling until October. I feel like in 8 months most of this should blow over and have ran its course. We know that out of fear, a lot of our guests may not end up coming as most of them fall into the high risk category. But like you, we will have waited over two and half years to get married, so the last thing we want to do is cancel.

This is a hard decision for your family I am sure. I wouldn't cancel just yet. I would just wait.

It's way too early. You should wait until October. You'll know if things will get better or not by the summer.

You should be ok. I doubt it will still be an issue in November.
