To all of you getting married in a church:

I have 2 questions 1) Do you attend the church that you are getting married in? 2) What are the fees that your church is charging? The only reason I am asking is that my fiance and I both attend and are members of our church, and the fees seem extremely high! Like $525...was just wondering if this...

The only reason I am asking is that my fiance and I both attend and are members of our church, and the fees seem extremely high! Like $525...was just wondering if this was average or if we need to look for another church. Our wedding is really low budget, and $500 just for a half hour ceremony seems steep. Any thoughts?

We are not members and the rental price is $600.00 plus $100-200 donation to the pastor for his services. If its mandatory can you really call that a donation. Also we have to have 6 Counseling Sessions, but they are only charging $35.00.

I am a member at my church and the rental fee was $150.00, Priest fee was $150.00, pre-cana weekend $65.00, counselling $150.00....So that's $515.00 and we are making a donation as well as donating our ceremony flowers...Also if we wanted the organist it would be another $100.00

I actually am a church administrator. We charge $500, it includes, premarital counseling, rehearsal, programs, candles, wedding coordinator, music, sound, the filing of the marriage certificate and of course the wedding. By the time we pay everyone who does their job; the pastor, the sound person, wedding coordinator, organist, buy the program covers, the secretary to print the programs and file the certificate at the county office, the custodian to clean up afterwards, the candles, communion supplies... Trust me, we are not raking in money from the couple. Churches that charge a minimal fee, most likely are only providing a venue and nothing else. Plus, if the church has a strict rule about members tithing-meaning all members donate 10% of their income on a regular basis (and some do like the LDS) then there is no need to expect members to pay for their wedding so it is free to members or very low cost. I am planning to renew our vows at the church I work at, looking so forward to it.
