To after party or not to after party?

Shaquana, on July 20, 2019 at 8:07 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11
My husband and I are renewing our vows Sept 2020. We are planning an early afternoon ceremony followed by cocktail hour and a reception, ending at 5pm. We decided on a early wedding since it is on a Sunday (which is our actual wedding anniversary) I am considering hosting an after party from 6-9 for guests that want to continue the party. If our event was on a Saturday it would be a no brainer but I’m conflicted since it is on a Sunday! Thoughts?

I think it’s a great idea. People who want to get home earlier can, and those who want will stay. I don’t think 9pm is too late on a Sunday, but I guess it depends on how far I’m traveling too. What are you thinking for location/food? Would you be expecting everyone to get dinner on their own between reception and after party?

I’m planning to get married on a Sunday or a Monday. Either way, I plan on having an after party because I want to have a nice, long, amazing day and so many venues charge for extra hours xD.

The afterparty will be local in Brooklyn, NY where most of our guests live. We are having a massive cocktail hour that starts at 12 and includes, pasta stations with 6 options, 9 passed hors d'oeuvres, cheese and fruit, crudités, salads, roasted potatoes and paella. Then sit down meal, followed by a dessert bar. All of this ending at 5pm. I did not surmise that guests would be super hungry for dinner by 6/7pm. I was not going to offer anything for dinner at the afterparty since I figured some guests would stay for an hr or so at the after party then head home. It is something to think about. Maybe I can have a food truck at the end of the night. Thanks!

I think you should do it. If people want to leave they can but many will stay and celebrate with you

Sounds like you definitely have food covered! A food truck could be fun if you think enough people would stick around until 8/9 pm, but I would definitely be stuffed with all that!
