I gave it with a thank you note afterwards.

Most people tip the day of for vendors like the DJ, HMUA, servers, etc. We will give labeled envelopes of cash to our DOC to hand out. It’s fine to wait to tip your photographer or videographer until you get your photo/video back.

For the most part, we tipped after the fact via thank you notes. We had intended to tip day of, and had a big stack of cash on hand, but amidst all the chaos we didn’t get around to it. So, I checked in with vendors before they left to make sure I had their mailing addresses as a way to make sure they knew the tip was coming!

tipping day of is fine too, but personally I would never tip on service before actually receiving said service !

We tipped at the time to our servers at the restaurant and the musician playing for us. He was a high school friend who was/is a professional musician nonetheless. We had no DJ. Either way is fine, really - people love getting tips, right?

The only people we will be tipping the night of in cash is the servers at our venue. For our photographer and DJ, we'll be sending a thank you card with a gift card to a nice restaurant.

That's a neat gesture on the gift cards Courtney. Stupid question but gratuity was included in the cost for our venue, so do you suggest we pay additional to the servers, bartender, etc? The venue provides the catering and everything

No, if gratuity is explicitly included in your total, then no you don't need to further tip the venue staff.
