Tips?

We’re having a bar at our reception but no one seems to be able to answer my question . If it’s not an open bar do you still tip the bartender at the end of the night?

I would tip the bartender for their work, especially if the bartending service isn't their own business.

It’s up to the couple only to tip. But a tip for any vendor should only be given after the wedding is over (the next day or after the honeymoon) for those who go above and beyond the call of duty. Tips are not for no shows, bad service or simply showing up to work.

Ask your venue, if the bartender's gratuity is included in the fee. Do you expect your guests will tip at your cash bar? In any event, one should always tip for service in the US. You can provide a modest tip on top of others' at the end of the night in an envelope. The karma will come back to you.

Hi Jessica! I'd definitely check your contract first to make sure gratuity isn't included anywhere. If it's not included - each bartender should be tipped 10-15% of the total bar tab!

If it's a cash bar, where guests can give tips or there's a trip jar, I think I would still tip at the end of the night. I say that because you are still paying for them to be there and paying for their services ultimately. They never know how guests will tip or if they even will.
