15-20% is standard. Tips can be quite costly

I've never heard of tipping a DJ 20%. We tipped most vendors a set amount. For our DJ, we tipped $100.

We're tipping our vendors 20% of their fees other than our venue day of coordinator (because tipping based off our venue fee would = $5000 and that's crazy). We only have a handful of vendors who tips would be expected for, our DJ is a family friend who is DJing for free and he got an assistant for $600 (so the assistants tip would be $120. Our ceremony/cocktail hour musician is costing $500, so $100 tip. I'm paying the tip for the hair and makeup artists, so that'll be $180 tip for hair, $160 for makeup. and the bus driver for our shuttle, which will be about $250. It's a lot but they're providing a lot.

That’s generous tipping and I’m here for it. While 20 percent is costly to some for a DJ it was so worth it. He went over and beyond. So we didn’t mind paying him an additional 200.00 as he really earned it and set the party off right. Keep in mind our reception went until 2:30 am.

Yes our wedding was quite costly but worth every penny. The DJ was a 1000.00 that was the least of our expenses.

Sorry I was not tracking correctly. Are you saying you would have to tip $800.00?

A 20% tip for this service is incorrect advice. They aren't servers in a restaurant, so a different standard applies.

I don't think you have to do 20% for your singer/dj but I personally I wouldnt give anything under $150. Happy planning!

Thanks for this information! I was planning to tip $200. 20% seems excessive to me.

    15/20%
Also put a tip jar in front of the booth and allow others to tip as they request.
    Happy Planning.
