Tips on picking a Dj?

Jessica, on August 27, 2021 at 2:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
They all seem the same from what they post online and from initial conversations. Don't have any strong personal recommendations from friends to go off of. Curious how others picked their DJ?

We got lucky in that a friend of ours is a DJ and offered to be ours, and we've seen him in action and is amazing. He did let us know that he's going to bring a second DJ to help so he can mingle and enjoy the day as a guest as well as he's a family friend and will know a lot of people there. We trust him for whoever the second DJ ends up being.

You can always try to look at google reviews/yelp/thumbtack to get a better idea.

Honestly I just went with who was the cheapest. And I'll tell you I got super lucky. I paid $800 for my dj. He played the saxophone through out guests arriving, ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner service, then the rest of the night he dj. I was beyond impressed with him. He was amazing and everyone kept asking us about him. I think 3 of our guests are thinking of having him dj their wedding to.

We went with a family member because of the relationship and its way cheaper but i would talk to some people to see who knows who but research them and be sure to be very clear about what you do and DO NOT want played. I had to say clean versions so many times I can't count lol

We had just moved to Florida when we started wedding planning so as we looked at venues we asked around about all the other vendor hires we needed. Nobody was specific when it came to caterers or photographers but they all mentioned the same DJ and that's who we hired.

I checked reviews of other customers and looked at his IG. We were originally going to go with our friend then my dad but I'm glad we're going this route. Reviews help.

We 100% 'stole' ours from our friends' wedding.

She nailed their vibe and no one wanted to leave the dance floor, she was reasonably priced, and put a soft hold on our date when we told her we were theatre people and would also need her help with a skit.

Didn't even look at another DJ and we couldn't have been happier with her.

I pretty much googled all local DJs and then went through their reviews. I picked the four DJs with the best reviews, three were free on that date and we met with all three. We picked the one we "vibed" with best.

We picked our DJ because he's local to our area and had great reviews. We set up an initial meeting and we just vibed really well, it was like we were having coffee with a friend vs. meeting a DJ for the first time. We knew then that he was it. Come to find out, he had actually DJed some weddings of people we knew, and they all gave him great reviews as well.

$800 is a deal! I keep getting quotes of $2500 which just feels like A LOT

Definitely , we were so surprised. Everyone in our area was $2000 or more. I came across our dj on this site and thought it was a joke at first.
