  I don't necessarily have experience, but like you, I find $5-$7 a bit much. Maybe you could do something in between the recommended amounts?

  I got married in LI also. They recommended me tip 3-5$ per guest.

  Also, it’s a recommendation not a requirement. You should tip what you think is appropriate.
