Tips for Home Catering Rehearsal Dinner

Anna, on September 17, 2017 at 9:43 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

We decided having a rehearsal dinner at our home is a much better fit for our family. Looking for advice to make this a wonderful night for about twenty people. FH and I are vegetarian (vegan if we can) and so are at least three other guests. Probably about twelve guests will be drinking. (Edit: head count)

    Hire a caterer. Seriously.

Do you have a favorite local restaurant? Most restaurants offer catering where you can pick up trays of hot food (or have it delivered). Then all your have to do is set it out on a table like a buffet.

Beer and pizza make a fine rehearsal dinner, to be honest. Since you're hoping for vegan, maybe get Chinese instead unless you have access to a place that does good cashew cheese. Vegan dishes for you and non-veg for those guests that want them, a few beer and wine choices and you're good. It doesn't need to be a second reception or anything like that.

What advice are you looking for? Check the vendor tab or Google "vegetarian caterers is X city". Or go to your favorite local restaurant and see if they offer catering. Get prices and go with what fits your budget.

I had a restaurant cater for about 20 people for my daughters graduation. A pasta tray, chicken tray, roasted veggie tray and salad tray. I think it cost about $200 and was a godsend to not have to cook.

FH and my BIL picked them up just before people arrived. I'd suggest doing something like this.

Italian was our first choice for a restaurant and then probably an Asian location if that did not work out Smiley smile I am looking for any small details I may have forgotten and any big to-dos or not-to-dos so I thought a general advice post would be best. I should mention I have a severe nut allergy so no cashews for us!

Thanks for throwing out an estimated price point 2TaurusWed! I do understand that is dependent on our location and menu selection but it is better to have an idea to base our choices off of.

That (allergy) sucks - cashew cheese is the only vegan cheese I like!

But honestly RDs aren't a huge deal. Invite the SOs of all invited, have a few food choices and basic alcohol as well as soft drinks. Host everything. And you're fine. Most people will want an early night anyway, with the wedding to sleep up for!

Our rehearsal dinner with include both vegetarians/vegans, as well as meat eaters. We decided to do pizza, salad and beer/wine. It's an easy solution for us as we didn't want anything too fancy and wanted to accommodate everyone.

Treat it like a regular party. Have your seating well-laid out and your booze area well-organized. Think through music and, if someone will want to make a speech, when that will happen and who will control music. And have fun!

My sister did Greek food for hers. It was small, so she just had a local restaurant deliver (which in fine in my opinion). Greek food is very veggie and vegan friendly!

Veggie fajitas? Beans and corn salsa. Like a taco bar?
