Tips for first dress appointment?

Eri, on August 13, 2019 at 9:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
Hi everyone!
I have my first wedding dress appointment in a couple days and am not really sure what to expect, what to wear, what questions to ask, etc.
I have an idea of what kind of dress I'm interested in, but obviously I'd like to try on a bunch of different styles to see what's flattering; definitely open-minded! I'll be paying for the dress myself, and the shop already has my budget.

So far, I know that the appointment is for 90 minutes. Coming along with me will be my mom and sister (who is also my MOH).
I'm planning on wearing a strapless bra and light makeup. Any other tips?
Thank you!

Focus on you and what you want/ what makes you happy.
When you LOVE a dress make it be your dress, don’t let others talk you out of what makes you happy/ comfortable!
other than that go in with an idea of what you think you want, but be open to the stylist picking a few for you( even if you think you’ll hate it) it very well may be “the one”!!!
    Good luck!!

Skip the lipstick entirely. Bring in magazine clippings or Pinterest boards to show them what you like in a dress. Let them know about your guest list and venue and any theme so they can get a feel for the day.

It's recommended to wear a strapless bra and full coverage underwear in neutral colors. At the appointment, be open to try what your consultant pulls! Even if it's not your desired silhouette or it looks weird on the hanger, try it on! Most of the time you'll be surprised how flattering a dress looks on you even if it looked wonky on the hanger. And most of all, try not to stress and have fun during this amazing experience Smiley smile

Expect the Unexpected. I had an idea when I went in there & my MIL pulled a dress for me that I thought looked horrible on the hanger, but I tried it on & absolutely fell in love with it. Trust your gut. If you can't stop thinking about it, it's definitely meant to be.

Have an open mind! I walked in with a specific style in mind, but ended up with a totally different one!

Yes, After 4 appointments, I realized that I need to be looking for exactly what I said I didn’t want in the beginning. You never know...

Make sure you look good - hair and makeup. I know when Im a mess I think everything looks terrible on me.

    Bring some champagne Smiley winking

Try on literally every dress that could be interesting. Trust your gut. Dont feel you have to buy that day. Go back by yourself and try on a couple of favorites again. Have fun!!!!

Figured I'd post with an update for how the appointment went, along with the happy news--I said "yes" to the dress! Smiley love

We pulled about 6-8 dresses in various styles (all with one or two elements that I liked, and a few that I was open to trying).

After trying on the first dress and absolutely loving it, none of the ones I tried on afterward compared. I'd put them on, look in the mirror, and immediately want to take them off.

We were going to pull another batch of dresses after the last one, but the stylist had me try on the original again and... that was our answer. I didn't even feel the need to go to another boutique and can't stop thinking about it! Smiley heart

Going in, I wanted a lace bodice with a full tulle skirt that had lace on it as well, but no beading or sparklies, and an a-line. Color-wise, I thought I was going to do ivory or blush.

I ended up getting a dropped waist fit and flare design with a super ornate lace & beaded bodice, some teardrop lace and beading on the tulle skirt with a chapel train, in a champagne color.

Not at all what I expected or thought would look flattering on me, but still similar to what I initially had in mind. Originally, I thought I'd like something relatively simple, but the dress that I got looks like a showstopper and I LOVE it.

It was also part of a sample sale, so I got a great deal and was able to stay within my budget.

Couldn't be happier, and I can't wait to wear it next year!
